Job Purpose


Kansas City Kanas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for Adjunct faculty to teach courses in the Criminal Justice program (CRJS). Locations may be at our main campus or any location including local high schools, daytime, online, evening or virtually. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.


Position Description


  • Maintain accurate record of students’ attendance.
  • Use teaching methods that emphasize application, cooperation, and collaboration. Engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills.
  • Submit mid-term and final grades.
  • Exhibit professionalism with faculty, administration, staff, students, and constituents.
  • Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one’s own pedagogy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide instruction, activities, assignments, and assessments to cover all student learning objectives for the specific course(s) taught.
  • Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
  • Organize and teach criminal justice classes as assigned by the Dean, delivering quality education and training.
  • Attend all KCKCC required training and meetings.
  • Perform adequate assessment and analysis of assessment according to college requirements.
  • Conduct all class sessions according to schedule.
  • Assign and provide feedback for in and out-of-class work, monitor student progress and maintain accurate record of students’ performances.
  • Ensure timely, accurate and complete submission of all reports to appropriate office(s).


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Ability to arrive on time and be ready to teach course(s) during scheduled times.
  • Complete knowledge and understanding of the role and functions of the criminal justice discipline.
  • Excellent knowledge of the role of the criminal justice system in society.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Blackboard for posting assignments, assessing students, performances, and grading.
  • A thorough understanding of the vocabulary used in the criminal justice discipline.
  • Ability to prepare curricular materials to convey learning objectives to students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Position Qualifications And/or Education


Minimum Qualifications and/or Education


  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a master’s degree in another area with 18 credit hours of graduate Criminal Justice coursework.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a criminal justice professor.


Preferred Qualifications And/or Education


  • Four (4) years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in a diverse, open enrollment, urban community college.
  • Experience working in a diverse environment.

Work Schedule


Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
