Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work.


Substitutions


College training which included six semester hours per year in law enforcement or criminal justice will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.


An associate degree in law enforcement or criminal justice will substitute for all of the required experience.


Special Requirements


Must be eighteen years old at time of application.


An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.


A drug screen will be administered prior to employment.


May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment.


Required to attend and pass a Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification school.


Some P.O.S.T. certification schools require the passing of a physical examination.


Note


Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Differs from the Criminal Investigator 2 by the absence of full performance of duties at the experienced level.

Investigates violations of state criminal laws, conducts administrative investigations and investigations of regulatory violations enforced by the department through statute.


Gathers evidence, prepares warrants, and effects arrests.


Locates and interviews witnesses and testifies in court.


Conducts undercover operations, assumes undercover roles, and conducts physical and technical surveillance.


Prepares necessary reports on investigations.


Makes physical arrests and transports fugitives.


Performs background investigations.
