As a Cow/Calf Husbandry Technician, you will:
  • Keep records during calving, breeding, and health treatment throughout the year.
  • Be responsible for the daily feeding, health, and care of the cattle.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities at the cow/calf unit.
  • Carry out a summer grazing plan.
  • Complete artificial insemination and estrus detection of cows for breeding, thus AI certification is required.
  • Assist in research trials, which include weighing and collection of blood, hair, and other tissue as well as bull data for annual teaching herd bull sale.
  • Operate tractors and trucks to feed cattle.
  • Supervise 2 to 4 student employees on a day to day basis.
  • Communicate between local farmers and ranchers in the area, as well as all other ENREC personnel.

Requires AI certification.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree plus two years of cattle operation experience; equivalent education/experience considered. Artificial insemination, estrus detection, and calving experience. Experience operating and maintaining farm equipment and vehicles. Valid Nebraska driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in agriculture. Supervisory experience.
