The Counselor also works in conjunction with the counseling team and the Dean of Students to provide advisory programming related to Social-Emotional Learning and other important mental health topics, and in conjunction with the Learning Support Services Coordinator to support students with mental health accommodations. This position works directly with the other Counselors, to provide ongoing support as outlined in The Cranbrook Counseling Program Vision, Practices & Policies guidelines. The Upper School Counselors support boarding students and areas of residential life on campus; support extra-curricular programing that supports the wellbeing of students; and help facilitate campus wellness teams and provide content and expertise for adult learning.

The successful candidate must have a master’s degree and current clinical professional license in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling and a strong background in child development, psychopathology, treatment, and referral practices. A demonstrated ability to manage at-risk or crisis situations, knowledge of current law and best practices is also required. Strong candidates will demonstrate commitment to the overall wellbeing of students, faculty, and staff, promote best practices for reaching all students and have experience designing & disseminating professional learning opportunities. Effective communication, both verbally and in writing, and effective team building and facilitation skills are necessary. A minimum of three years of experience working in high school preferred.

Cranbrook is a PK-12 school with a vibrant boarding component in grades 9-12, providing the opportunity to live and work on our architecturally famous 319-acre campus. Often living and working in our residence halls, faculty engage students and support their development as members of a shared community. Eagerness to live among students, and to engage them in the evenings and on the weekends as a part of an exciting residential program, is particularly significant for this position. (Candidates are not required to live on campus, but it is preferred.)

Cranbrook offers competitive compensation and benefits that include medical, dental, life insurance, long-term and short-term disability, and retirement programs with employer contribution.
