Job Description

Freelance Copyeditor

LHH Recruitment Solutions is currently seeking a freelance copyeditor with 3 or more years of experience for a contract opportunity for a non profit organization in Washington DC. This role is 100% remote EST and is part time. This is a great role that offers the opportunity to work with a results-oriented and dedicated team.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit for grammar, spelling, style, clarity, consistency, readability, and inclusive language. Do basic fact-checking.
  • Communicate clearly to writers, story editors, production editors, and the senior copyeditor—both in comments on a story and in messages about scheduling.
  • Other editing may include podcast scripts, email campaigns, content marketing material, video scripts, and on-screen text for videos.
  • Copyedit chemistry-related features, news stories, and graphics that accompany stories.

Qualifications:

  • A strong grasp of grammar and usage.
  • Bachelor's Degree Communications or related fields
  • Experience following a style guide.
  • Experienced in Adobe InCopy, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with inclusive language, news editing, science editing, and graphics editing, as well as comfort with technology preferred.

Experience:

  • 3 years of copyediting experience

Employment Type: 1 year contract, 5 hours a week

Compensation: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
