University Dining Services is looking for experienced Cooks for full-time positions. Up to 3 union positions available.

The Company:
University Dining Services offers a variety of dining options on the Corvallis campus. We are a self-operated food service department that serves food in micro-restaurants across campus using fresh ingredients.

The Position:
Cook 2 is a full-time 12-month position
Our cooks are involved in the coordination and preparation of food for a variety of different restaurants, learn new scratch cooking techniques for global cuisines, and stay young by training and working with college students.

Position Duties
Responsibilities:
This position ensures that guests of UHDS dining operations receive an appealing, nutritious and satisfying meal.
Coordinating the food production for a designated area, preparing foods for special diets, maintaining adequate product, and training students and staff on cooking methods and procedures.
This is done by providing leadership and role modeling on how to maintain high quality food and how to prepare menu items using solid cooking methods with a focus on safety and sanitation.
This position assists with training personnel and student employees.

About Dining Services:
University Housing & Dining Services (UHDS) houses over 4,800 students and offers a variety of living and dining options in 15 residence halls, three dining centers, a market, catering, and 10-14 convenience and coffee shop locations across the Corvallis campus. We employ over 150 professional dining employees and 800 student employees. We provide clean, sanitary working environments for our guests and employees that are regularly maintained and serviced. Minimum Qualifications

Two years of cooking experience in an institution or commercial firm serving complete meals; OR an Associate’s degree in Food Service Management, Foods and Hospitality Service, or a directly-related field.

  • Professional oral and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of large quantity food preparation.
  • Ability to respond positively to changing work demands as well as the ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and stay organized.
  • Must be able to work shift on feet and perform frequent arm movements.
  • Experience working with kitchen equipment including, but not limited to, grills, fryers, knives, slicing machines, mixers, ovens, and steam kettles.
  • Requires a valid Food Handler’s certificate within 30 days of employment. Must maintain certification throughout service with UHDS.
  • Demonstrated passion for food and the food service industry.
  • Experience in safe and sanitary methods for food and beverage preparing, handling, and storage.


Pursuant to UHDS Policy, this position is required to maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification (if cognitively and physically able to do so) within 90 days of employment or when training becomes available by the department. Training is provided at department expense. Duty to act ends at summoning professional emergency assistance.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

WORK SCHEDULE:
To support our residents, we are open 365 days a year so there is night and weekend work. Shift and/or work assignment may be changed based on operational needs.
