Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Content Writer also works closely with the development and programs teams to write client and community stories, impact reports, digital content, and marketing materials that help inform and influence key external audiences. This is the perfect role for someone looking to use their storytelling and writing expertise for a mission driven organization.

As a critical member of the communications team, the Content Writer helps tell the story of LIRS's work and impact as a writer, editor, interviewer, and researcher. Your work will inspire existing and new audiences, raising awareness about our mission and encouraging supporters to continue to engage with the organization.

DUTIES

  • Write and edit personalized impact reports, including researching and compiling impact stories, to be shared with individual donors and groups.
  • Draft program one-pagers for a variety of key audiences.
  • Other duties as assigned, including analytics and occasional support on social and internal communications.
  • Proactively seek out, write, and edit impact and staff stories across the organization that tell the story of the organization and the clients we serve.
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of written content, using data and feedback to optimize and improve products.
  • Assist the Development team with special projects and reports.
  • Create marketing materials for LIRS's social enterprise initiatives and privately funded programs.
  • Create and edit content for our network of supporters, including newsletters, annual reports, and appeals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Spanish language proficiency a plus.
  • Demonstrated interviewing and storytelling ability and sensitivity to the unique backgrounds and privacy concerns of refugee and immigrant clients.
  • Commitment to LIRS' core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationship with colleagues and partners, commitment to empowering refugees and migrants.
  • Experienced and dependable proofreader and editor. Fluency with style guides. Strong research skills. Able to translate complex information into clear, jargon-free language that conveys key messages.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, as well as design software and WordPress. Experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Interest in and commitment to learning more about immigration, refugee, and asylum issues, as well as creating and strengthening a culture of inclusion within the organization and beyond.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write in a range of voices and styles for varied projects with a wide range of key audiences.
  • Team player and proactive relationship-builder with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience; bachelor's degree with concentration in English, Marketing, Journalism, or Communications strongly preferred.
