Description

Under the supervision of the Director, Technical Services and Support, responsible for the administration and functional operation of MATC’s enterprise computer network systems. Maintains, configures, supports and troubleshoots network hardware, infrastructure components, operating systems, and software applications. Work is generally diversified requiring judgment, analytical skills, and decision-making abilities, according to established practices and procedures. Daily activities are completed independently, or as part of a project team, employing established procedures and general objectives. Interaction with supervisor is normally limited to problems or unusual situations.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in departmental meetings, in-service training and other activities as required; attends conferences, seminars and professional meetings as designated.
  • Creates and maintains appropriate technical, operational and troubleshooting documentation via various media resources. Monitors and supports computer Help Desk.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the department.
  • Performs systems administration and management duties for both physical and virtual systems including using monitoring, recording, reporting and analysis tools.
  • Assesses and resolves network hardware and software problems including the following: troubleshoots and repairs complex network problems using software tools and diagnostic equipment; maintains and repairs communications media.
  • Collaborates with Construction Services by coordinating the specification, layout and design of additions and modifications to the District enterprise computer network in existing buildings, new construction; designs structured wiring systems used for building communication infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoots hardware communication issues and performs root cause analysis by engaging in troubleshooting activities and resolving network connectivity issues.
  • Monitors, evaluates, develops and implements computer network resource optimal utilization and performance including network traffic usage; proposes capacity planning recommendations; monitors and maintains network file server storage.
  • Assists in the research, evaluation, and implementation of computer network hardware and software, and makes recommendations; coordinates related network changes with computer systems staff.
  • Develops and documents appropriate procedures, guidelines, and techniques to pursue, track, and resolve network problems
  • Performs and assists with special projects; collaborates and communicates the MATC community, vendors and vendor support services to troubleshoot network issues.
  • Collaborates with Technical Services staff to install, configure, and manage District's enterprise computer network and virtual systems with faculty, staff and students.
  • Provides prompt and accurate service in response to support requests. Provides on-demand high level technical support to the MATC Community.
  • Implements and manages appropriate software and hardware solutions of varying Server level network Operating Systems and applications used by the MATC community; performs and maintains complex software installations and upgrades including virtual and physical Windows server installation.
  • Keeps current and recommends new strategies on digital trends.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Associate’s degree in Computer Networking.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred.

Required Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in continuous network technical support activities.
Preferred Experience: Prefer more than three (3) years of relevant experience.

Vision Insurance
  • MATC offers a group vision plan through Superior Vision..Upon selection, the vision insurance plan coverage begins the first of the month following start date.

Group Life Insurance
  • MATC offers group term life insurance benefits through Madison National Life Insurance Company effective the first of the month of start date and is fully paid for by the College. The amount of insurance is based upon the employee’s annual earnings rounded to the higher $1,000.00. The benefit is doubled in the event of accidental death.
  • Supplemental Life Insurance is also available at group rates for employees, spouses, and dependents to purchase.
Long-Term Disability
  • MATC offers long-term disability insurance through Madison National Life Company after 30 days of employment and is fully paid for by the College. Benefits provided are equal to 66 2/3% of base monthly earnings.

Retirement Savings
  • In addition to the WRS pension account, employees may enroll in other optional retirement savings plan such as a 403(b) account or a 457 account on a pre-tax or post-tax basis.
  • Regular full-time employees of MATC who are hired for greater than 12 months become members of the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS)’s pension system as of day one of employment. The College currently pays the full cost of the employer contribution (6.8%), and the employee pays the full part of the employee contribution of 6.8% of salary. There is a five year vesting period requirement in order to qualify for any employer contributions made on the employee's behalf. Contribution rates are subject to change annually as set by the State.
Sick Leave
  • Each employee may accumulate up to 165 days of full sick leave with an unlimited accumulation of half pay sick leave.
  • MATC offers employees a generous sick leave plan per year.
Vacation
  • MATC offers a vacation policy to employees for the purpose of rest and relaxation.
  • Vacation is earned at a generous rate each year of employment. (Not available for Instructors)
Paid & Flexible (Floating) Holidays
  • MATC provides two flexible (floating) holidays per employee per year. (Not available for Instructors).
  • MATC offers 12 paid holidays for non-Faculty positions and 7 paid holidays for Faculty positions.
Tuition Benefits:
  • Amount allowed per fiscal year is 18 credits at MATC or $1,400 at other accredited institutions.
