We are looking for a Music Composer who has experience in game development. Someone who is willing to work freelance or part-time on the development of a Public Demo which will be used for a Kickstarter. Contracts will be set up before the Kickstarter campaign. Payment after the campaign for the development of the full game can be discussed during and after the interview. Payment is reliant on Kickstarter or other funding and thus is not an ongoing salary and compensation for demo work will be received post-funding.



The Game

Nekonomicon is a monster of the week style game, meaning a brand new monster every level with an interconnected overarching story.


A love letter to the horror comedy genre, it is a point & click adventure game featuring puzzles and a wide variety of microgames (called “minis” by the team). The player follows Nikki, a brand new witch apprentice and their mysterious grandmother, Yamna, on their adventures through a dangerous and horrific world as they wield the Nekonomicon. On this journey, Nikki will encounter a variety of monsters they must overcome and defeat through the use of their creative thinking and their execution of microgames. It’s not all doom and gloom though! Nikki will also meet plenty of fun and loveable characters along the way who may or may not die horribly… Hmm, maybe it is all doom and gloom.

The music is intended to aid the horror of the game. Initially natural and ambient, nearly pleasant, the music and sounds turn off-putting and uncanny to lift the fear associated with the monsters of the game. The dichotomy is intended to express when something belongs in the world, and when it doesn't.

Note: the examples don't have to match EXACTLY it's more vibes based than anything.


Qualifications

  • Must be fluent in english.
  • Ability to compose music fitting the themes and examples shown.
  • Must be able to create both natural sounding lightly cartoony music as well as horror compositions.
  • Reliable and frequent communication is a must.


Responsibilities

  • Must show up to team scrums at least twice a week. (times discussed once hired)
  • You will be responsible for creating compositions for the demo + kickstarter marketing. This includes overworld themes, menu themes, music for potential marketing videos and music for minis.


Nice to Haves

  • Experience in creating compositions that can fade into one another for more natural map transitions.
  • Experience working with small and large teams.
  • Experience creating music for games.
  • Experience with crowd funding projects.
  • Experience working remotely on a team.
