What You Need To Know


The American Red Cross Community Adaptation Program Administrator will oversee the administration of the Community Adaptation Program (CAP), a comprehensive initiative designed to address the urgent challenge of extreme weather events that are displacing tens of millions of families in communities across the United States. The Administrator will play a critical role in driving the success of the program, working in collaboration with internal and external partners to ensure effective program management and community impact.

  • Recruit and engage volunteers in CAP program activities as needed.
  • Coach and mentor field team members to develop their skills, knowledge, and capabilities, and to support their professional growth and development.
  • Manage internal communications strategy with a focus on the Community Adaptation Program Dashboard, monthly situational reports.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator with Talent Acquisition on the hiring of new Community Adaptation field team members.
  • Coordinate with and support the Grant and Collaborative Projects Manager in the processing of all partner enhancements and grants.
  • In collaboration with the CAP Evaluations Manager, monitor program performance and impact, identifying areas for improvement and working with field team members and partners to develop and implement strategies to address challenges and optimize program outcomes.
  • Promote and foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the CAP program and across the American Red Cross organization.
  • Oversee the on-boarding and training of all Community Adaptation Program team members.
  • Serve as liaison with key internal Red Cross units, as assigned.
  • Support additional Community Adaptation Program activities, as needed.
  • Work with the Director of Disaster Risk Reduction to develop and implement a comprehensive program strategy, ensuring that program goals and objectives are aligned with the American Red Cross mission and priorities.
  • Maintain the overall Community Adaptation Program field team budget to include monthly budget forecasts and multi-year expansion planning.
  • Serve as primary coordinator for engaging Red Cross subject matter experts to support hyper-local CAP partners.


The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and be located anywhere in the United States. Typical work hours follow an East Coast schedule but may require extended hours/on call support as needed.


For those candidates located in Colorado or Connecticut or New York, the salary range for this position is: $102,300 - $109,120.


Note that the American Red Cross sets salary ranges aligned to a specific geographic location in which the work is performed. The stated salary range in this posting is specific to CO, CT or NY. If you live outside of these states and are a remote employee, your salary may be different and based on your geographic location. The specific salary information will be shared at the time of phone screening based upon your location and qualifications.


What You Need To Succeed


Education: Bachelor's degree required.


Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.


Management Experience: 3 years of supervisory or management experience.


Skills & Abilities


  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop and manage complex budgets and workplans.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Red Cross business processes and systems including Workday, Concur, HR Now, and Coupa.
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail while also maintaining visibility on the program as a whole.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and demonstrated ability to promote and foster a culture of diversity within a team or organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in team management, including the ability to manage teams in complex and challenging environments.
  • Knowledge of disaster risk reduction and community resilience strategies preferred.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring team members to develop their skills, knowledge, and capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in program monitoring, evaluation, and learning, including the ability to effectively use data to support program improvement.
  • Proven ability to promote effective team collaboration and communication, and to ensure that team members are working together to achieve program goals and objectives.


Proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Familiarity with federal, state and local employment laws. Ability to work on a team.


Travel: Travel may be required.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
