Job Description
Stand.earth is seeking a Communications Manager, bilingual in English/Spanish, to support our Amazon Campaign. If you are a communications professional with experience in campaigning through strategic storytelling, media outreach, and international campaigns, and if you care about protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples, advancing conservation solutions at policy level, and restricting resource extraction in the Amazon - then read on! This might be the perfect role for you. We invite you to read the full scope of the position below and submit your resume using the quick apply button. Selected candidates will be asked to submit a cover letter and may be asked to participate in a time-bound anonymous skills assessment. We encourage applicants to apply by August 9, 2023. This position is open until filled. About Stand.earth Stand.earth is a nonprofit environmental organization working to create a world where respect for people and the environment comes first. Our campaigns challenge destructive corporate and governmental practices, demand accountability, and create solutions that support all of us - and the environment and climate upon which we depend. Stand's strategic approach and fierce determination have yielded extraordinary results: Since 2000, we've secured the protection of millions of acres of wilderness, shifted billions of dollars of corporate purchasing toward responsible options, and transformed the environmental practices of more than 100 major U.S. corporations. Stand.earth operates in the United States and Canada. Stand recognizes and respects the sovereignty of First Nations and tribes, and the rights of Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities. These communities are often first and most directly impacted by environmental pollution and climate change, and they provide critical leadership in developing solutions. Pollution, climate change, and corporations' bad behavior disproportionately hurts the most marginalized people in society - including people of colour, people from working class backgrounds, people with disabilities, women and LGBTQ+ people. To develop transformative solutions, these communities must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other historically marginalized communities. If you require assistance applying to this opportunity, please contact h . About the Campaign Stand.earth's Amazon program links three key areas of campaigning - the role of global financing of oil and gas extraction in the Amazon, the "Amazonia for Life: 80% by 2025" initiative, and the state of California as the main consumer and destination for Amazonian oil. The campaign supports national-level land use protections in the nine Amazon countries; targets banks funding Amazonian oil; and works to reduce Californian demand for Amazonian oil imports, all while centering Indigenous communities and local leadership, and working with coalitions. The Position The Communications Manager develops, implements, and manages communications, media, and engagement plans to help drive Amazon campaign strategies, working in both English and Spanish. This is a full time position and salary is commensurate with experience and adjusted based on location, but will be within the range of $62,000-$85,000 USD or $72,540-$99,450 CAD.
