Job Description

Hawaii Technology Academy Public Charter School seeks candidates for the position of College and Career Counselor (Oahu) for the 2023-2024 school year. Candidates must reside on Oahu, but the role includes working with our statewide campuses on Kauai, Maui, Kona and our Distance programs.

The College and Career Counselor candidates should have:


  • Masters Degree and counseling credential preferred but not required;
  • Prior experience with college application deadlines and requirements;
  • Prior experience with college and career exploration programming and curriculum;
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Science or Counseling;
  • Prior experience with a college promotion and financial aid assistance program;
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, students, school stakeholders and community partners;
  • Proficient organizational skills, attention to detail and follow through;
  • Familiarity with State of Hawaii High School Diploma requirements;
  • Effective communication skills requiring frequent contact with the public;

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Managing NCAA profile, Advanced Placement and Running Start Dual Credit/Early College course approval/reporting;
  • Working in collaboration with Career Based Learning Coordinator, supporting students in accessing experiential learning opportunities, including internships and community service;
  • Collaborating with the other High School counselors to develop personalized learning plans for each high school student.
  • Working with Registrar and Director of School Records to ensure accuracy of student transcripts and records;
  • Working with teachers and parent learning coaches to ensure a positive and supportive learning environment for students and to ensure that the entire community is aware of the college and career opportunities available to students.
  • Advising students and parents on college applications, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities;
  • Responsible for writing letters of recommendation and submitting all documentation to college and career programs, including, 4 year colleges, 2 year colleges, military, and job programs.
  • Building and maintaining annual career transition list;
  • Maintaining appropriate database and reporting of student assessment results;
  • Designing college and career information sessions for students, parents and school stakeholders;
  • Developing positive relationships with colleges and universities to advance the interests of our students for college transitions;
  • Collaborating with the HTA Counselors to counsel families who are considering alternative options to High School Diploma or credit recovery courses.
  • Maintaining and communicating annual college acceptance, financial aid and scholarship list;
  • Developing positive relationships within the local community to build immediate career opportunities for our students;
  • Collaborating with High School Counselors and Directors to design High School advisory program;
  • Working with Executive Director, High School Directors and Director of School Records to build annual course catalog and ensure accurate course-ACCN alignment;
  • Training students and teacher to effectively use SCOIR in college and career planning;

This is a 12-month HSTA position. Salary commensurate with experience based on HSTA salary schedule.
