Job Description
Position Title: Collector Department: Lending


Classification:Non Exempt Approved By: VP of Lending


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS


Position Reports To: Collections Manager


Positions Supervised: None


POSITION PURPOSE


Responsible for the control and follow up of delinquent loan accounts by making contact with members and maintaining accurate records on delinquent loan accounts. The Collector is responsible for administrative and financial work of managing of accounts and other finical records, collection of all receivables, associated transactions, receipts and expenditures; all other related work as required. Accountable for regulatory compliance and supporting the credit unions mission and Great Worthy Cause.


Essential Functions And Basic Duties


  • Meet Core Comp Requirements.
  • Counsels members on available alternatives to eliminate the delinquency to include hardship, settlements and other programs.
  • Provides status updates to members.
  • Record all collection efforts via the collection system insuring that all accounts are called and noted accurately.
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve reasons for delinquency.
  • Provide the ability for Growth and Development.
  • Review with management and the Senior Collector, accounts where actions beyond routine collection procedures are required.
  • Recommend changes to improve workflow, efficiencies and quality.
  • Perform responsibilities of position in accordance with federal and state regulations, credit union policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Acts as a backup to the assistant collector in their absence. Attending to all associated clerical and administrative work.
  • Contact distressed members to determine the extent of their hardship and their ability to pay the account currently and in the foreseeable future.
  • Negotiates appropriate short term payment arrangements.
  • Places outbound calls, as well as receive inbound calls.
  • Recommend all accounts that are to be written off as un-collectable and prepare report.
  • Cross-sell credit union products and services as appropriate.
  • Conduct research, ordering payment copies, credit bureau reports, statements, and credit applications as necessary, to support the collection efforts.
  • Escalate calls and/or problem accounts to Management, repossession, legal or collection agencies as appropriate.


PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS


Performance is measured against the goals as outlined by the position established by the Management.


Qualifications


Education/Certification:


Some college preferred plus two to three years of experience in collections; or a comparable combination of education and experience.


Required Knowledge


Knowledge of collection process, applicable regulations, and good communication skills.


This position requires that the employee gain a working knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements and how they will affect their work. The employee will comply with all requirements of the BSA and cooperate with the designated BSA Officer in assuring compliance.


Experience Required


Experience using P.C. based software including Microsoft Word and Excel.


Skills/Abilities


Ability to project a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times.


Bilingual a plus.
