Job Description

Are you an aspiring healthcare professional considering a career change? As a C.N.A trainee, you will be paid while attending classes at our facility. You will have direct care with Veterans and learn skills such as how to take vitals, height, weight, proper transportation of Veterans, and more. Once you complete certification, you will be promoted to a full-time Support Care Assistant (C.N.A.) and begin earning benefits. You must remain employed with the Missouri Veterans Commission for a minimum of 12 months following the completion of the course. If you leave employment, you will be required to repay all costs associated with training.

Hourly Rate: $16.31

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking, balancing, finger dexterity, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, bending, lifting, supporting, repetitive motion, frequent washing of hands
  • Essential sensory and communicative activities include: feeling, seeing speaking, hearing, smelling and tasting

Summary:

  • Travel with Veterans to appointments as needed
  • Answer call lights promptly and courteously
  • Have direct contact with the Veterans such as vitals, weight, height, elimination, transferring Veterans, emptying catheter bags, etc.
  • Assist Veterans who need supervision with smoking
  • Assist with the set-up/delivery of food trays (ex. setting up food trays, cutting up food, carrying trays, etc.) Assist/feed Veterans as assigned. Assist/transport Veterans to and from meals
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time, primarily on feet all shift with the exception of breaks and occasional sedentary tasks
  • Assist/provide dressing and grooming as necessary, bending to assist with socks, shoes, etc.
  • Approach and communicate with Veterans in an effective and therapeutic manner
  • Adhere to all established facility and Commission policies and procedures
  • Participate in making beds
  • Perform electronic manual data entry
  • Have direct contact with the Veterans such as vitals, weight, height, elimination, transferring Veterans, emptying catheter bags, etc.
  • Serve between meal and bedtime nourishment as assigned. Encourage/assist Veterans with hydration requirements.
  • Participate in cleaning equipment (i.e., wheelchairs, walkers, etc.)
  • Document in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record)
  • Lift and move equipment
  • Approach and communicate with Veterans in an effective and therapeutic manner
