Job Description

Staff pharmacists fill orders for parenteral and enteral medications, monitor patient drug therapies, and provide drug information. Reports to the pharmacy manager. In the absence of the pharmacy manager, a staff pharmacist assumes the essential responsibilities and performs the essential duties of the pharmacy manager.


Works independently with minimal supervision

Works cooperatively with health system and pharmacy staff

Handles frequent interruptions and adapts to changes in workload and work schedule

Sets priorities, makes critical decisions, and responds quickly to emergency requests

Exercises sound professional judgement

Communicates effectively (orally and in writing)

Meets the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, oncology, obstetric, rehabilitation, and hospice patients

Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparation of IV admixtures, use of a computer key board)

May require lifting and carrying of light loads (up to 40 pounds), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers).

Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) may be necessary

Must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job
