Oregon Department of Corrections
The Oregon Department of Corrections has a Clinical Psychologist 1 opening at the Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and could be used to fill future vacancies.
The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) seeks to employ career-oriented candidates and offers employment opportunities in a wide variety of challenging occupations. ODOC’s mission is to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior.
These positions are represented by Association of Oregon Corrections Employees (AOCE). These positions may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
What you will be doing
Your primary duties as a Psychologist with the Department of Corrections will be to provide clinical psychology services in the form of psychological assessment, testing, consultation, and treatment within the limits of the psychologist's expertise in various multi-disciplinary treatment teams.
Duties in detail
Psychological Assessments.
Administers, scores, and interprets standardized psychological assessments to evaluate intellectual, personality, and social functioning of adults in custody.
Documents psychological assessments in accordance with Health Services and Behavioral Health Services practices.
Integrates test results, behavioral observations, and historical data to formulate a diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
Performs risk assessments as requested and necessary.
Performs psychological autopsies as requested and necessary.
Provides input into the development of individualized treatment plans, that may include Behavior Intervention Plans, as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
Completes evaluations within specified deadlines.
Treatment Services
Meets with adults in custody to implement treatment plans consistent with the recommendations of the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
Conducts individual and group therapy.
Consultations
Attends clinical management meetings to consult on clinical and service delivery issues.
Documents all consultation or direct services provided in the medical record per Health Services Policy and Procedures.
Conducts psychological autopsies as required.
Attends and participates in in-services training. Provides training to program staff on topics specific to identified clinical topics.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited university, AND completion of a one-year internship in Clinical Psychology. You must be eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in Oregon.
A doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited university, completion of a one-year internship in Clinical Psychology, and completion of necessary supervised hours post-graduation. You must be licensed as a Psychologist in the state of Oregon or meet all requirements for immediate licensure. Required to be licensed in Oregon at the time of your appointment. A position may be offered contingent on you obtaining your Oregon license.
General Knowledge of

Requested Skills in
  • Provide training in assessment, psychotherapy and treatment planning techniques
  • Maintaining client records which includes recording client behaviors and the factors which influence them
  • Administering, scoring, and interpreting standardized tests of intelligence, achievement, aptitude, personality behaviors, and neuropsychological screening
  • Communicating orally in order to explain and persuade
  • Preparing written reports which contain formal diagnoses and recommendations for treatment
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team in developing treatment and behavior modification plans for clients
  • Performing group, individual, and family therapy
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with members of an interdisciplinary treatment team and other agency staff
Required
  • A current unrestricted license to practice as a psychologist issued by the Oregon Board of Psychology. Must be legally eligible to work in the US.

Working Conditions
The work is conducted in adult prisons. Offenders may become physically and verbally abusive and assaults and disturbances may occur. Training in and knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, emergency procedures, and defensive measures is essential. Contact with offenders during treatment, consultation, or supervision may take place with the psychologist out of visual range of security staff. Vigilance and awareness are required to maintain a non-threatening environment to prevent aggressive or high-anxiety offender behavior. May have exposure to chemicals, communicable diseases, radiation, and other hazards inherent within a health care and correctional setting.
Requirements for Employment
You must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: felony convictions, computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range.
