Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Informatics Specialist (CNIS) facilitates the integration of IS information and knowledge to support healthcare staff in decision making, design, education and implementation of the EMR and related processes at MDIH. The primary role of the CI is to serve as a “bridge” between MDIH physicians/clinicians, EMR Stewardship, Information Services (IS) and other key EMR stakeholders to educate, support, facilitate change and assure optimal use and evolution of healthcare information technology (HIT) assets. This individual is expected to exercise direction and judgment with minimal supervision while conducting training and assisting with parts of a project or process within the department. It is important the candidate can understand, technically, how systems interrelate with other departmental systems applications. This position works closely with MDIH staff to meet their site-specific needs as well as with departmental managers, clinical application analysts, and our EMR partners in providing the analysis of workflow process (current and future state) and gap identification required to support the application that will automate or improve upon the current system.

Requirements:


Education, Training or Certifications Required:

  • BLS.
  • Holds a current Maine RN license or eligible through state licensure via Nursing License Compact.

Experience Required:

  • Proficient in nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.

Cognitive Requirements:

  • Ability to integrate complex clinical information into a useful format and communicate this to medical and nursing staff.
  • Ability to process complex clinical information and respond appropriately. Ability to learn new techniques and incorporate them into nursing practice.
  • Able to take in, process and apply clinical information in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Emotional maturity and good people skills required.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively in emergent situations. Able to collect, sort and prioritize data.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to sit, stand and/or walk for an 8 or 12-hour shift.
  • General health must be such as to regularly work scheduled hours.
  • Must be able to bend and lift 25-50 lbs. (assisting patients in and out of beds, etc.).
  • Has adequate hearing, vision, speech and manual dexterity to communicate with the patients and to complete any necessary daily tasks.
