Available Shifts that candidate should expect


  • Nights: 10:00 pm - 6:30am
  • Nights: 2:00 pm -10:30 pm


Area Specific Job Accountabilities:


  • Requests appropriate referral forms, makes copies of insurance cards, and captures or confirms consent of treatment and HIPAA information. Completes check-in procedure.
  • Communicates effectively with patient, parents, physicians, ancillary hospital employees and team members.
  • Reviews registration information and directs patient to Central Registration to update any changes.
  • Verifies orders and diagnosis codes with the ordering physician as needed. Releases orders from EMR/ orders tests in LIS.
  • Maintains an appropriate inventory of phlebotomy supplies in the outpatient collection area and on the phlebotomy trays.
  • Obtains blood specimens from patients using standardized venipuncture, capillary puncture, and specialized procedures.
  • Keep refrigerators and freezers clean and organized.
  • Registers patient as a walk-in, completes checkout and end-of-session audits, and identifies the patient using two patient identifiers and affixes patient ID band.
  • Utilizes the laboratory and hospital computer systems to order and receive laboratory specimens, report laboratory results to the physician and ancillary staff, retrieve collection lists, verify account numbers, modify incorrect orders.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
  • Performs point of service functions.
  • Maintains telephone inquiries in a professional, proactive customer service fashion and serves as a resource for customer information and requests.
  • Greets patients/families in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Performs maintenance procedures and function check on the equipment.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Prior experience working in a lab setting preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Hospital and laboratory computer systems required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to resolve problems with the utilization of appropriate resources, to make informed decisions and handle complex inquiries in a courteous and timely manner; to work in a fast-paced, time critical department.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Associate’s degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or medical technology
  • Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Phlebotomist
