Job Description
Summary:
Provides clerical and non-technical support to the Anatomic Pathology Department. Prepares cytology specimens for review. Answers phones, triages requests, gives reports, and faxes via the LIS. Accurately documents all client communication. Prepares Pathology specimens for send-out, and documents return of materials and reports. Works closely with pathology staff in monitoring service quality to ensure proper specimen collection, accessioning, reporting and billing of lab tests, and delivery of quality outcomes. Must be able to utilize good anatomic pathology terminology. Actively participates in lab compliance activities.

Basic laboratory skillsPrevious training within a medical profession where there was contact with handling of patient specimens and records. Able to communicate effectively. Able to work under pressure. Willing to increase knowledge. Demonstrates creativity, initiative and problem solving.

Responsibilities:


Demonstrates an overall knowledge and competency while performing tasks listed in the job description and all expected CLA duties. Accurately retrieves, registers and accessions all specimens into Histopathology with appropriate record-keeping. Accurately organizes workload and prepares cassettes for grossing. Professionally answers phones, triages requests, gives reports, faxes via LIS. Accurately documents all client communication. Prepares Pathology specimens for send-out, and documents return of materials and reports. Prepares cytology specimens for review. Identifies issues and processes requiring improvement. Ability to find, organize and use resources to improve outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to function productively and independently, planning and prioritizing times and tasks to complete work assignments. Ability to maintain positive performance under a variety of conditions. Assists with maintaining organization and cleanliness and work/storage areas. Serves as a resource and teaches new employees.
