Responsibilities
The Clinical Exercise Physiologist screens, assesses, evaluates, and interprets measurements to provide appropriate therapeutic intervention, education, counseling and disease management for patients in both a clinical cardiac rehabilitation setting and a clinical stress testing setting.
Independently performs and interprets standard and cardiopulmonary stress tests, echo stress tests, cardiopulmonary sestamibi stress tests, pulmonary function tests, oxygen saturation measurements, body composition analysis using DXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry),six minute walk tests, neuromuscular screenings, psychological screenings, sleep apnea screenings, and strength assessments.
Develops and implements treatment plans for patients, including disease management education, counseling and support to patients and family members involved, exercise prescription, proper exercise training and technique, safe use of exercise equipment, identification of cardiovascular symptoms, cardiac medication education, and modification of cardiovascular risk factors.
Monitors and evaluates each patient's treatment plan and must work collaboratively and effectively with the medical team regarding each patient's care.
The patient population is both male and female, adult, and geriatric.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, recreational therapy, health education, cardiac rehabilitation, health fitness or other equivalent allied health field from an accredited college/university is required.
Additional Qualifications:
Clinical Physiologist rehab experience preferred
Previous training and/or experience in cardiac rehabilitation cardiopulmonary stress testing, cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, cardiovascular pathology, cardiac medications, exercise prescription is required (i.e. experience from a formal internship is highly desired).
Basic knowledge of rest and exercise 12-lead electrocardiogram and rhythm abnormalities is required.
Must be physically able to demonstrate/lead various exercises and assist patients with various exercises, as well as with the use of various exercise equipment.
Behavior/Health coaching experience and certification is preferred.
Masters degree is preferred.
License or Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.
Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) Certification or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist Certification for master's level (RCEP) through the American College of Sports Medicine is required within 1 year of hire date.
Behavior/Health coaching experience and certification is preferred.
Demonstrates critical thinking, decision making, problem solving and communication skills.
Involvement with local and/or national professional organizations (AACVPR) related to position is encouraged.
