Background:


Kent, Campa and Kate Incorporated (KCK) is a federal contracting company that provides professional services to Government Agencies. We are currently seeking candidates for a Climate Course Instructor (ECON) position in Arlington, VA supporting the Foreign Service Institute (FSI).


Position Summary:


The Climate Course Instructor will be located in the Economic and Commercial Division (ECON) at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI). The ECON division prepares the Department’s professionals to support the economic, energy, science, technology, and health policy of the United States abroad. The position requires the application of expert-level professional knowledge in U.S. government climate programs, policies, initiatives, and interests. Under the guidance of the ECON deputy director, the Instructor serves as the coordinator and subject matter expert to develop classes for a climate tradecraft course, based on the knowledge, skills and attitudes identified the needs assessment. The individual will develop and deliver a pilot course and manage program evaluation and follow up, using existing resources and creating new material. Existing resources may include revisiting existing workshop and related courses to provide a comprehensive approach to climate related training.


Required Qualifications:


  • Experience: Ten years of professional experience in international affairs, environment, science, energy, climate or related field. Expert-level knowledge of and experience in environment, science, energy and climate issues and the role of the U.S. government.
  • Education: Four-year degree in international affairs, environment, science, energy, climate, economics or related field.
  • Commitment to a team-oriented, collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, prioritize, and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines.
  • Familiarity with and the ability to use computer and related technologies such as word and excel.
  • Proven track record managing complex projects and initiatives that required coordination with multiple partners across an extended period of time.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience designing training curricula.
  • Experience in program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience working in an overseas environment.


Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
  • Coordinate any resources that aid in the facilitation of the climate portfolio. These may include internal and external stakeholders, other subject matter experts, and/or contractors who aid with the production of the climate tradecraft and related courses as the climate portfolio evolves.
  • Lead and coordinate the development of course material for an in-person course.
  • The primary duties of the Climate Course Instructor will fall within three categories:
  • Deliver course to foreign affairs professionals who are responsible for advancing U.S. climate policy. Evaluate course delivery and provide recommendations for future course offerings and related curricula.
  • Respond to requests for information on climate training from within FSI and the department.
  • Coordinate and serve as the subject-matter expert for the development of a tradecraft course on climate, developing relevant curricula that draw on existing workshop and training materials and in line with FSI’s identified needs assessment for further training.
  • Research existing training offerings to update and further refine materials and course content.
  • Continuously develop and maintain professional contacts across FSI, the Department, and other government agencies who will be resources for the courses.
