Clas Student Photographer/Videographer

The UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Marketing and Communications team seeks a qualified student to plan, shoot and edit photography and videography that will be used in CLAS websites, social media, marketing materials, publications, and more throughout the college and campus community. You’ll practice important skills like time management, prioritization, interpersonal communication, service, and teamwork, and gain valuable experience that will strengthen your resume and portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities

• 10-20 hours/week with great flexibility on time and location

• Starting date negotiable, but no later than start of fall 2022 semester

• Duties include

o Shoot photos and/or video of events, spaces, campus, people, and other subjects as assigned.

o Edit and post-process projects and deliver to client or designer specifications.

o Schedule assigned shoots, ensuring photos/videos are taken as defined and by the deadline.

o Obtain imagery for specific projects or needs by either shooting or sourcing stock photos.

o Media management- organizing and managing videos, photos, sorting, and tagging.

o Coverage of events happening in evening and weekends

o Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Candidates must be enrolled as a student at the University of Iowa

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

• Experience and knowledge of photographic concepts such as light, composition, and exposure.

• Experience with manipulating digital photos and retouching images using Adobe Photoshop.

• Experience with shooting and editing videos using Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.

• Studio lighting and/or flash photography experience desired

• Able to work independently, self-directed, and good at communicating clearly and assertively.

• Ability to interact professionally with diverse groups through a variety of situations.

• Punctual, reliable, and professional.

• Ability to accept and incorporate supervisor feedback on projects.

• Able to relate well to subjects, follow CLAS and UI policies, and responsibly manage equipment

• Must provide photography and/or video samples. Electronic portfolio including a minimum of 10 photos; via e-mail, attachment, or website link required.

• (Desired) Ability to make at least a one-year commitment.

Hourly rate: up to $15/hr to start based on experience.
