This position is hybrid eligible, with onsite and remote work accommodations. Candidate must reside in one of our regions in North Carolina.

EmergeOrtho is committed to being the trusted leader in innovative, quality-focused comprehensive musculoskeletal care. With offices across North Carolina, t he Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for providing sound technical, strategic, and operational leadership in all aspects of our business while guiding the future direction of IT for the practice. The CIO must embrace and value innovation and be able to lead transformative IT initiatives that optimize current systems and improve organizational performance and security. These efforts must support the practice’s overall strategic business plan and direction. They will be expected to ensure that applications, infrastructure, analytics, and information security will continue to meet and exceed the needs of this growing and evolving physician practice, including ASCs, and other affiliations. The CIO will develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets for information technology and systems. They will be expected to lead the prioritization of all system IT projects and gather feedback from a broad array of constituents to ensure alignment and the efficient and effective use of resources. The CIO should also possess a strong appreciation and understanding of overall physician practice and ASC operations.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Seven (7) years of experience in progressive leadership experience in Healthcare Information Technology. Prior experience as a VP of IT or CIO is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field is required, or, 10 to 15 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in large healthcare organizations, and/or integrated healthcare delivery systems
  • Master’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Business/Health Care administration, or a related field is strongly preferred
  • Broad experience and knowledge of all areas of IT, including cyber security, systems applications, database administration, networks, telecommunications, hardware, software, mobile technologies, virtual environments, privacy, and regulatory compliance
  • Must have significant experience developing and executing IT security plans
  • Experience establishing, building, and developing positive relationships with leadership and staff to effectively deploy technology, transform service delivery and improve customer service. Must have a track record of success working collaboratively across an organization with interdisciplinary teams
  • Successful track record of leading an effective, service-oriented Information Technology Department
  • Candidate must have strong planning and project management skills and be able to prioritize and adjust based on the changing needs of the practice

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Develop and successfully implement an IT plan that aligns with and advances the overall strategic and business plans of the practice
  • Leverage existing information technology to improve patient access, quality, safety, productivity, efficiency, and the overall patient experience
  • Compliance with external regulatory agencies and organizations for all areas of responsibility
  • Maintain professional affiliations and enhance professional development to keep current with the latest healthcare trends and developments
  • Prepare agendas, reports, and presentations for the committee, board, and shareholder meetings; lead discussions and coordinate any subsequent changes
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned by Manager, including schedule changes and travel to office location s as assigned
  • Lead and advocate for new innovative products and other appropriate opportunities
  • Oversee the advancement of the practice’s information security program to protect information assets and patient safety
  • Work to standardize as appropriate key IT applications between the practice, ASCs, and hospital relationships to include all interfaces recognizing that we must achieve sustainability for facilities
  • Interpreting and applying regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Write and respond to a high volume of emails promptly; place and retrieve many phone calls daily
  • Optimize Athena and other key IT applications through workflow improvements and problem resolution
  • Oversee the successful implementation of Athena, Microsoft Office, PACS, and all other software packages
  • Oversee EMR Management Team
