Job Description
ROLE::
The role of chief Engineer is to lead the technical services department and support to operations in delivering the business plan and to develop a robust plan from life of mine to rolling forecast and to ensure that the business is safe and sustainable.
KEY WORKS OUTPUTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES::
  • Interpret and prepare financial technical models to determine project valuation and feasibility
  • Ensure that the Management Operating system (MOS) is maintained.
  • Assist in development of SOPs and JHA procedures.
  • Compliance with Tennessee HSEC policies and ensure that all engineering work are complaint to regulations.
  • Ensuring 43-101 compliant sampling, QA/QC, geologic and geotechnical data collection programs are in place, especially where drilling programs are conducted within North American Mining operations.
  • Lead and maintain ventilation, geotechnical, Survey, Mine planning, and Drill & Blast programs.
  • Identify and implement cost saving and/or cost efficiency projects.
  • Actively identify and lead due-diligence projects on brownfield and greenfield expansion potential.
  • Interpret, optimize, and approve primary and secondary ventilation plans
  • Analyzing data and providing technical documentation to support decision-making.
  • Interpret and approve geotechnical studies and models for stope stability, seismology and stress re-distribution associated with the stoping sequence.
  • Review, optimize and approve development and stope drill and blast designs
  • Create and manage reports on performance and devise strategies and take any necessary actions to rectify deficiencies.
  • - Create professional short- and long-range strategic planning strategies and provide execution guidance to mining processes.
  • Actively participate and support mine-to-mill reconciliation process.
  • Lead and support the compliance to plan process and establish feedback loops into mid and long term strategic planning
  • Actively lead annual life of mine planning and budgeting activities including resource and reserve estimation
  • Attend safety meetings and demonstrate safely leadership.
  • Work closely with Geology, Mill and Mine Operations to develop and maintain life of mine plan including ore reserve.
  • Strategically lead and develop subordinates to have a suitably skilled, qualified and continuously improving workforce.
  • Conduct economic and technical optimization and trade-off studies.
  • Develop and grow the technical services team and ensure that there is a clear vision and well defined roles and responsibilities.
  • Contributing to the preparation of the annual budget and other long-term strategies.
  • Managing activities related to programs, systems, and procedures in mine design.
  • Using operational excellence resources and methodologies, maintain a high standard of quality in all work.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE::
QUALIFICATIONS:::
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) with experience in leading the Technical services department.
EXPERIENCE::
  • Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes
  • Track record in driving continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of professionals to deliver against targets
  • Experience in development and control of departmental budget and expenditure
  • Experience in driving best practice through your department and into the business. This includes the development and implementation of strategy in line with business goals.
  • Leadership experience within mining and Technical operations (preferably underground)
