Summary of Position with General Responsibilities:

Knowledgeable engineering resource to improve the competitiveness of the organization in a performance based team environment. Own the full scope of project responsibilities to completion.

Job Functions:

  • Design, develop, qualify, and validate manufacturing processes and tooling/equipment.
  • Perform mechanical/chemical testing and gauge R&R studies.
  • Drive continuous improvement, improved safety and cost reductions.
  • Knowledgeable on materials for product designs in areas of responsibility.
  • Technical interface with manufacturing teams.
  • Statistically analyze data (eg: process capability, Design of Experiments).
  • Author change requests, protocols, technical reports and AFEs.
  • Provide sound engineering and scientific judgment and decisions.
  • Qualify and validate new material and suppliers, focusing on polymer formulations.
  • Effectively train manufacturing employees on specifications and processes.
  • Support facility’s Quality System and tactical plans.
  • Trouble-shoot processes, equipment and quality systems and develop/implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in cross functional project teams and execute individual project tasks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates a proven work ethic and positive demeanor/attitude.
  • Basic knowledge of structure-property-process relationships of polymer systems.
  • Ability to translate technical documents to manufacturing operators.
  • Customer focus, innovative, results oriented.
  • Take initiative in learning new technologies and materials.
  • Ability to be flexible and deal with changing priorities.
  • General knowledge of basic physics and chemistry.
  • Ability to tackle problems and conflicts, work well with others and demonstrate teamwork.
  • Understands the properties and behaviors of different raw materials.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills across all levels of the organization, both internal and external.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on experience working in a polymer chemistry laboratory.
  • Expertise in the following materials: plastics, polymers, chemicals, composites, metals, industrial minerals and rubber.
  • Experience in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with using spreadsheets, databases, and statistical software.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in polymer synthesis focused medical device manufacturing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Science or technical field, or

Physical Demands:

Occasionally requires light physical effort as in periods of prolonged standing, sitting at files or worktables or bending, stooping, or reaching and/or occasional lifting of light items (i.e., up to 30 lbs). Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing processes.

Work Environment:

May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing processes, requiring precaution. Some minor physical inconvenience or discomfort occasionally present in the work situation (moderate noise, disagreeable odors, etc.). OR occasional exposure to minor injury or other health hazard requiring some precaution.

Training Requirements:

On-the-job, SOPs required for position and GMP.
