Job Description
Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Charge Clinician (Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, or Certified Nurse Midwives) with excellent communication and clinical skills to oversee our South-Los Angeles region clinicians, consisting of five (5) health centers. Provide shared center leadership with the Center Manager and model clinical expertise. Assist the Center Manager and Senior Director of Health Center Operations by providing medical oversight of all center staff in designated center(s). Provide quality reproductive health care services including exams, diagnosis, treatment, education, and counseling for clients in accordance with PPLA protocols. Serve as a medical resource for other licensed and non-licensed staff.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Medical provider number required
  • Master’s/Graduate degree required
  • NPI Number required
  • An active California License as a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Certified Nurse Midwife required
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS required
  • Current furnishing license required (for NP and CNM)
  • Two (2) years of recent experience in education and training preferred
  • Ability to travel to multiple health center sites as needed and reliable means of transportation
  • (1) year experience as a Clinician in reproductive healthcare and/or women’s healthcare
  • Experience in a leadership role in healthcare field preferred
  • DEA Number preferred

Clinical/Patient Care Responsibilities:

  • Participate in on-call coverage and be additionally available during emergencies for telephone consultations outside of regularly scheduled work time/on-call hours
  • Manage Mid-Level Clinician performance issues in designated center(s)
  • Maximize center flow and provider efficiency through appropriate utilization of Flow Facilitator
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Manager to identify and assist with the development, solicitation, and implementation of corrective plans of action
  • Participate in Health Center efforts to achieve established goals, including those on productivity
  • Follow PPLA/ PPFA medical protocols, standards, and guidelines
  • Function as a Mid-Level Clinician, providing patient care 4 days/week
  • Have consistent oversight of all Clinician staff in the assigned region
  • Perform Quality Management chart reviews in collaboration with the Performance Management Team
  • Consistently communicate quality review findings to Mid-Level Clinicians and work collaboratively to develop an improvement plan
  • Perform all the clinical job functions listed on standard Mid-Level Clinician job description
  • Is available for patient and staff calls and review medical records for potentially high risk situations and clinical questions
  • Maintain clinical skills to meet agency needs and legal requirements for licensing
  • Work closely with and assist with the development of Policies and Procedures to ensure consistent standards of practice

Management/Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with Center Manager to problem solve and find solutions for the benefit of patients and staff
  • Strengthen recruitment and retention efforts through clinical rotation opportunities
  • Assist with the recruitment and hiring processes of new Mid-Level Clinicians and preceptors
  • Enforce strong internal and external customer service standards of all Licensed and Unlicensed Staff
  • Collaborate with other Charge Clinicians to be consistent with Clinician meeting agendas and meetings held monthly with Clinicians within the regions
  • Serve as a clinical resource for agency staff regarding medical protocols and patient medical management
  • Provide general oversight and supervision for all health service delivery within a health center
  • Attend clinic staff, clinic management and general staff meetings and in-services as applicable
  • Complete performance management plans and appropriate disciplining action as it pertains to the Licensed Staff behavioral and clinical performance
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director, Senior Director of Health Center Operations, and Center Managers to complete new hire and annual performance and competency evaluations of Mid-Level Clinicians
  • Manage expense reports, time cards, and requests for time off from work for Mid-Level Clinicians in designated center(s)
  • Participate in Task Forces or committees as needed and/or as requested
  • Work closely with the Medical Director, and/or Senior Director of Health Center Operations in program development and evaluation processes
  • Oversee updates to the PPLA Medical Standards and Guidelines and ensure successful implementation into clinical practice
  • Foster team development between licensed and unlicensed staff
  • Manage uniform and reimbursement expenses as defined in the PPLA Employee Handbook
  • Participate in the development, revision, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practice standards, guidelines, and Policies and Procedures based on current literature, research, and practice

Educator Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a role model for the professional development of staff, colleagues, and others
  • Provide input in the development of patient education materials
  • Serve as supervising preceptor for Clinician interns and students as needed
  • Promote and encourage professional growth and development
  • Supervise, orient, and manage the training of Mid-Level Clinicians in designated center(s)
  • Recognize ethical, legal, and professional issues inherent in providing care to women throughout the life cycle
  • Assist with training and supervision of unlicensed clinic personnel
  • Utilize advanced principles of adult education to participate in direct and indirect patient education
