Become a Certified Nursing Assistant [Resident Care Technician - Objective (RCT-Obj) or Resident Care Technician – Advanced (RCT-Adv)] at the Department of Health Services (DHS) Central Wisconsin Center (CWC)! The classification/position level will be determined based on the qualifications listed below as well as facility needs. We are a care facility conveniently located at 317 Knutson Drive on the north side of Madison, WI. Our team takes great pride in the care we provide, which includes excellent short-term and residential services to help people with disabilities reach their highest potential.

We are currently accepting applications for our CNA training classes if you are not yet CNA certified, which are held every 4 weeks. Our class includes 8 weeks of paid classroom and job training held during daytime hours, Monday through Friday.
If you are CNA certified, you will complete 4 weeks of specialized training.

After training, CNAs are assigned to available day, evening, night or rotating shifts. Flexible scheduling is available. These positions require the ability to work scheduled hours as needed (day, evening, night, weekends, and holidays), including overtime as needed with shifts up to 15.5 hours long.

Position Summary


The RCT-Obj provides care to individuals with intellectual disabilities; helps new residents adjust to their living area; observes and reports behavioral, mental, and physical changes in residents; records and summarizes information in daily logs, clinical records, etc.; works cooperatively with others to promote a positive living environment.

The RCT-Adv - Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) is responsible for short term care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities (IID) who also engage in challenging behaviors. In addition to assisting with activities of daily living and active treatment, the RCT-Adv must demonstrate the ability to implement complex treatment plans that promote safety, skill development, and challenging behavior reduction.

The RCT-Adv - Medical Short Term Care Unit (MSTCU) is responsible for the care of individuals with intellectual disabilities who also have medically complexities, post-surgical and/or rehabilitative needs.. In addition to assisting the Activities of Daily Living, active treatment and achievement of individualized goals for the admission, the RCT-Adv must demonstrate the ability to adapt to a changing resident population and level of medical acuity and assignment on short notice.

Both RCT-Adv positions incorporate advanced knowledge of Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ID/DD) unique needs in the plan of care. The RCT-Adv is responsible to adhere to ID/DD regulations pertaining to, but not limited to: individual protections, active treatment services, individual behavior programs, health care services, and dietary services.

Salary Information


Starting pay for the RCT-Obj is $23.82* per hour. Starting pay for the RCT-Adv is $25.37* per hour.

Available is a $.80 night and $.80 weekend differential. A $2,000 sign-on bonus applies to those who do not have any prior state service in the last five years; who stay with CWC in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1000 upon hire and $1000 after completing probation. The RCT-Obj position is in pay schedule and range 06/11. The RCT-Adv position is in pay schedule and range 06/12. A 12-month probation is required.

  • Hourly wage listed includes a temporary $5.00 add-on paid after training is completed and when providing direct care. The add-on is available through June 17, 2023.

Job Details


Applicant screening includes a background check; Tuberculosis testing; and lifting up to 55 lbs., carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, twisting, and balancing.
Employees are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their start date. Exceptions will be granted to those who obtain an approved medical or religious accommodation or those who provide documentation requiring a delay in receiving the vaccine.

Employees are also required to complete the training program successfully during first 8 weeks and obtain a valid Wisconsin CNA certification within the first 120 days of employment (if not already certified).

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Attend the required training full-time, Monday-Friday during the first 8 weeks of employment.
  • Must be 18 years of age upon hire.
  • Read, comprehend, and interpret charts/diagrams and policies/procedures.
  • Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed including staying for the next shift to maintain facility staffing requirements.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team and interact with others.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience providing direct support services to individuals with intellectual disabilities with mental or behavioral disorders.
  • A valid CNA certification.
