***Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai‘i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Full time/Part time: Part-time, no more than 19 hours/week

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin May 1, 2023 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days. Continuation is depended on satisfactory performance, program needs and availability of funding.

Duties:

Coordinates early college program for Hawaii high school students in partnership with Lili‘uokalani Trust, Youth Development. Provides clerical support for project director. Assists with summer scheduling, supply orders, student applications, Sodexo and Housing. Assists with the overall operation of the Project Mohala Program at the UH Hilo campus.

  • Communicates with a variety of stakeholders, faculty, students, community groups and UH administration to organize the program experience. Recruits students to the Project Mohala Program, advertises the program, and track and records their progress using program database.
  • Manages and monitors communications between all project partners.
  • Compiles, prepares, and organizes project report at the end of the program.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
  • Connects students with peer-mentors recruited for the program. Coordinates peer-mentor activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year university or college.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with youth and/or engaging in community projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of different stakeholders, including faculty, students, community groups and UH administration.
  • Knowledge of Hawaii Island communities, UH-Hilo academic programs and Lili‘uokalani Trust programs.
  • Ability to organize and plan activities.
  • Ability to understand complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to prepare written reports, work with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and engage with Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and rural communities.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience or advising experience with Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander students.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited university or college.
