General Function
Under the direct supervision of the Construction Superintendent, this position provides services for skilled work at the journeyman level in construction. Position will construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools. The work will also involve performing various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, repair and maintenance of equipment and other building systems.
Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)
Performs interior and exterior remodeling with an emphasis on detailed finish carpentry. Other work to include weatherization related carpentry and handyman work described below
Install, build or repair cabinets, doors, millwork, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, and power
Study specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials
Assists in organizing construction
Assists in the generation of detailed material lists, for upcoming projects, within CIHA procurement policy
Assists in the estimation of labor, time, cost and materials through individual knowledge and with assistance of vendors and
Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power
Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
Performs weatherization repairs, including but not limited to attic space ventilation, baffling and insulating, crawlspace air sealing and insulation. The work will also include removal and replacement of single pane windows with thermopane units, wall insulation and vapor barrier upgrades, insulated door units, and weather- stripping.
Performs ADA accessibility improvements, including but not limited to compliant decks, porches, and ramps, grab bars, hand rails, and interior and exterior compliant doors.
Repairs floors, installs soft and ceramic tile and window glass.
Performs manual labor tasks including loading, unloading, lifting and moving materials, supplies and equipment.
Keeps records which include vendor and contractor records, bids, and weekly timesheet report.
Performs other related work assigned.
Skills/Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, practices used in carpentry, weatherization, and painting trades.
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the buildings, electrical or mechanical
Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, processes and materials involved in trades related to general
Ability to make accurate estimates of time and materials required for construction projects.
Ability to keep records and reports relating to inventory of equipment and
Ability to lift and carry up to 85
Ability to physically enter attic and crawlspace access panels which provide limited entry
Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in the construction
Ability to work with the public with heavy emphasis on customer service skills
Education and Experience
Four years apprenticeship training (or equivalent work experience) and three years of journeyman experience in construction
Graduation from high school or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
