WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are currently recruiting for the position of Apprentice or Journeyman Carman. This position will be headquartered in Missoula, Montana and will be responsible for all aspects and projects pertaining to the maintenance and repair of freight cars.


LOCATION: Missoula, MT

PAY RATE: $24.58 to start. Wage increases to $29.76 at end of Apprenticeship. Annual increases per contractual agreements.


KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Inspect, repair, fabricate, weld, assemble, maintain, dismantle, and perform projects relating to the repair of all types of freight cars.
  • Must complete and pass lessons as assigned. Journeyman status will be attained upon the successful completion of the apprenticeship requirements. (Apprentice Candidates Only)
  • Safe operation of equipment such as ATV, track mobiles, and cranes as necessary to repair freight cars of all types.
  • Know/Learn and understand the air brake system of cars and cabooses and provide appropriate wrecking services of cars or locomotives.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be safety conscious and capable of cultivating work practices that will contribute to the achievement of company safety goals
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must demonstrate ability to relate well with supervisors, peers and subordinates
  • Team player with positive attitude
  • Available to work all shifts, includes nights and weekends
  • Self-starter willing to devote necessary time and effort to ensure safety and productivity goals and all regulations are met or exceeded.

Journeyman Candidates

  • Ability to perform vertical and horizontal welding
  • Team player with positive attitude
  • Ability to safely operate fork lift, ATV, overhead joist, turntable, drop tables, and track mobiles
  • Possess a BRC Journeyman card – only applies to Journeyman candidates
  • Knowledge of FRA and AAR guidelines specific to the craft
  • Self-starter willing to devote necessary time and effort to ensure safety and productivity goals and all regulations are met or exceeded.

Apprentice Candidates

  • Desire and ability to learn the FRA and AAR guidelines specific to this craft
  • Mechanical and/or welding skills preferred
  • Aptitude to learn and operate equipment used in the daily operation of this position
