JOB DUTIES:


Position Summary


The School of Design & Communication is looking for a Gallery Manager to be the logistical arm of the Carlsten Gallery. This is a temporary position. This job will require an average of 20 hours per week with hours increasing during the show changeovers and reducing between installations. The manager will work with existing curatorial, promotional, marketing and preparator components and provide coordination as needed. The manager will provide and host receptions for each of the shows. The manager will lead the preparation of an annual SGA budget request. The manager will recruit, train and coordinate scheduling for student employees working both as gallery guards and as maintenance help during changeovers. The Gallery Manager will become the public face and spokesperson for the gallery dealing with internal and external facing messaging opportunities.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to oversee student employees
  • A basic understanding of AV technology
  • Basic understanding of art gallery practice


Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of UWSP or UW System policy and procedures

This is a temporary University Staff position, at will employment, and non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position is required to serve a six-month probation period.
