Description

This position requires applicants to be Bilingual in English and Spanish or Arabic. Please only apply if you are fully bilingual (able to read, write, and speak) in both languages.

One (1) vacancy for Milwaukee Downtown Campus: This position may rotate to Walker's Square facility for some activities and events for up to 4 days in a month to support bilingual students at that location.

Full-time Shifts Available: 7:45a.m. to 4:15p.m. (38.75 hours a week) year-round.

Under the direction of the leader of Career and Academic Assessment, the Career Development Coach provides holistic support and services to guide MATC students in achieving success by creating a career plan that leads the student to graduation and establishes a goal for either employment or transfer. Collaborates with intake navigators to provide support to students during their enrollment at the institution and has primary responsibility for resolving barriers to selecting a program, obtaining CPLE credits, and providing proactive support to the admission process. Administers career assessments, facilitates individual and group career advising sessions, counsels students on essential functions and technical standards through a facilitated discussion on skill deficiencies and program related barriers. Provides intensive career guidance, helping the student to develop an action plan for being career ready upon graduation.

Demonstrated ability of an integrated appreciative career and assessment approach to deliver career development and academic assessment services. Ability to research current trends in student retention and student development theory, Student career development theory, and the ability to implement such skills/goals throughout the college. Proven ability to provide pre-advising, careers, assessments ( both career and academic), information regarding support services, pre-enrollment programs, on-going learning assistance, and technology support.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise student with through review and discussion of academic records, portfolios, or CPLE transfer credit.
  • Assists in developing and ensuring compliance with policy and procedures manual for career services and assessments.
  • Provide career advising and pre-admission advising to students through scheduled appointments and drop-ins with individuals, online/distance resources, group programs, career planning courses, outreach opportunities, special events, information technology, and other available resources in careers and employment.
  • Support job and internship resources including directories, databases and web resources
  • Assist in developing a comprehensive plan to assist students in selecting personally suitable academic programs and experiential opportunities that optimize future educational and employment options.
  • Maximizes online resources, social media, and other connections for career support to students.
  • Interpret various career assessments and counsels students to take responsibility for developing career decisions, transfer/professional school plans, employment plans, and job-search competencies.
  • Advertise and assist in the creation and presentation of workshops on aspects of job, internship, work-study, transfer, etc.
  • Contribute to strategic goals of Career and Assessment Center
  • Advise undecided students face-to-face (one-on-one and group), phone, email.
  • Research, develop, and deliver presentations requested for classes and student organizations covering various career topics
  • Participate in the Student Success courses, new student orientations and classroom presentations
  • Provide ongoing Career Advising to students to develop a full range of career and work possibilities that match student's career goals and workplace/transfer fit
  • Participates with the Academic and Career Pathways to organizing career fairs, career activities, and career development programming.
  • Assist students with finding employment in their field of study by developing job-search skills, effective candidate presentation skills, and the understanding of the fit between their competencies and both occupational and job requirements. Provide encouragement, career mentoring and job counseling
  • Advise students on opportunities to gain experience through student activities, community service, student employment, research projects, cooperative education, internships, and other opportunities
  • Facilitate skills-based workshops and trainings; assist in campus-wide initiatives engaging cross-campus partners.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division.
  • Provide coverage as needed during drop-in hours
  • Advise students who are changing programs, careers, or how incorporating skills are transferable.
  • Obtains educational and occupational information for students to aid their career and educational planning and to develop their understanding of the world of work.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years in experience in career counseling.
Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, or related field and (5) or more years of relevant experience.
Required License/Certification:
  • Certified as a Career Services Provider ( CCSP ), Career Development Facilitator ( CDF ), or Global Career Development Facilitator ( GCDF )*
  • (For all candidates, a one-time exception will be made to become certified within 12 months of hire).
  • Driver's license not required, but must have the ability to have transportation to local community partner sites and other campuses.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
  • Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 30 lbs. and ability pull up to 60 lbs.
  • Must be mobile and able to float to all district-wide locations.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of the time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.

Dental Insurance
  • Upon selection, the dental insurance plan coverage begins the first of the month following start date.
  • Annual maximum per covered person is $2,500; plan covers preventive, routine, restoration, and has an orthodontic benefit for dependents up to age 19.
  • MATC offers a group dental plan through Delta Dental.
Vision Insurance
  • MATC offers a group vision plan through Superior Vision..Upon selection, the vision insurance plan coverage begins the first of the month following start date.
  • Plan covers eye exam, frames, lenses and contact lenses.
Group Life Insurance
  • Supplemental Life Insurance is also available at group rates for employees, spouses, and dependents to purchase.
  • MATC offers group term life insurance benefits through Madison National Life Insurance Company effective the first of the month of start date and is fully paid for by the College. The amount of insurance is based upon the employee’s annual earnings rounded to the higher $1,000.00. The benefit is doubled in the event of accidental death.
Long-Term Disability
  • MATC offers long-term disability insurance through Madison National Life Company after 30 days of employment and is fully paid for by the College. Benefits provided are equal to 66 2/3% of base monthly earnings.
Flexible Spending Accounts

  • MATC offers two types of Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA):
    • Health Care FSA
    • Dependent Care FSA
  • Dependent Care FSA
  • This type of benefit allows employees to set aside pre-tax dollars per calendar year for a variety of medical, dental, and vision expenses (for a Health Care FSA) and for day care expenses for children under 13 or family members that are dependent on you for more than half their support (for a Dependent Care FSA) up to a maximum amount.
Retirement Savings
  • In addition to the WRS pension account, employees may enroll in other optional retirement savings plan such as a 403(b) account or a 457 account on a pre-tax or post-tax basis.
  • Regular full-time employees of MATC who are hired for greater than 12 months become members of the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS)’s pension system as of day one of employment. The College currently pays the full cost of the employer contribution (6.8%), and the employee pays the full part of the employee contribution of 6.8% of salary. There is a five year vesting period requirement in order to qualify for any employer contributions made on the employee's behalf. Contribution rates are subject to change annually as set by the State.
Sick Leave
  • Each employee may accumulate up to 165 days of full sick leave with an unlimited accumulation of half pay sick leave.
  • MATC offers employees a generous sick leave plan per year.
Vacation
  • MATC offers a vacation policy to employees for the purpose of rest and relaxation.
  • Vacation is earned at a generous rate each year of employment. (Not available for Instructors)
Paid & Flexible (Floating) Holidays
  • MATC offers 12 paid holidays for non-Faculty positions and 7 paid holidays for Faculty positions.
  • MATC provides two flexible (floating) holidays per employee per year. (Not available for Instructors).
Tuition Benefits:
  • Employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement and waiver after completing probationary period.
  • Amount allowed per fiscal year is 18 credits at MATC or $1,400 at other accredited institutions.
