Job Description

Under the direction of a Cardiologist, performs diagnostic ultrasonic procedures for evaluation as prescribed by a physician. Requires knowledge and use of highly specialized equipment.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deciphers normal from abnormal pathology in order to obtain appropriate scan to show abnormality in its entirety.
  • Controls ultrasound to obtain proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied.
  • Reviews clinical data on requisition and obtains additional patient information when necessary
  • Explains examination procedure to patient and prepares patients for examination.
  • Completes appropriate paper work and database requirements for each test
  • Analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets equipment, and performs ultrasound scan.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Completed requirements as a Cardiac Sonographer from accredited program.
  • Must be eligible to sit for “Registered” Cardiac Sonographer designation from national accreditation board Completed Cardiac Sonographer program and eligible for “Registry” certification Registered Cardiac Sonographer in an established hospital non-invasive cardiac testing unit, preferred.

LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Registered Cardiac Sonographer within one year of hire

  • Works in a patient care setting with occasional exposure to unpleasant patient care tasks.
  • Daily interaction with family members and staff.
  • Occasional interaction with disgruntled/unsatisfied patients and families.
  • Extensive walking, standing, lifting, pushing, and the like may be necessary.
  • Outside travel to satellite locations as necessary
