COMPENSATION AND EXPERIENCE

Ceremony Coffee Roasters is hiring a Shift Leader in Annapolis at our Roastery location. This position is hourly plus tips and benefits, and we're looking for someone who is willing to make a long-term commitment. In order to fulfill the requirements of this position, it's best if you're available to work 28 hours/week (or four shifts), minimum. We guarantee a minimum wage of $18 for new hires, $19 for Certified Ceremony Baristas (those who have completed our three-month on-shift training program), and $20 for Certified Barista/Shift Leaders. Our minimum wage guarantee includes an hourly base rate and cash and credit card tips. If you don't reach the guaranteed minimum with tips, we'll supplement your pay to get you there. Our compensation plan comes with regular cost-of-living increases based on hours worked. You'll earn paid sick time through Sick & Safe Leave and be eligible for health insurance with company contribution and a monthly wellness benefit after meeting entry-date requirements. Coffee experience is certainly a plus, but the right candidate can learn everything they need to know by participating in our Ceremony Coffee Education Program. SHIFT LEADER POSITION SUMMARY

The Shift Leader position introduces new responsibilities to the barista role. Shift Leaders set the tone for the shift and it's necessary that you set a superior leadership example. You should be able to approach the shift with a big-picture perspective, handle customer and team interactions with grace and compassion, make smart decisions with a level head, and follow all policies and procedures. You'll take ownership of all areas of the cafe and ensure that Ceremony standards of cleanliness and hospitality are met.

As a new hire, you:

• Prepare and serve filter coffee, tea, non-espresso based drinks, and food according to Ceremony guidelines
• Apply “get to yes” philosophy in customer interactions
• Accurately perform cashiering duties including sales, returns, exchanges, and cash handling
• Efficiently perform restocking, tidying, and cleaning duties
• Act as a key player in your cafe’s effort to provide amazing customer experiences
• Greet, welcome, and assist all customers upon entry and throughout their visit
• Completion of daily and long-term checklists, meeting work quality standards set by Retail Manager
• Communicate important updates to Shift Leaders during shift changes
• Attend skill building classes to continuously enhance your own skill set
• Maintain knowledge of new coffees, seasonal items, and retail promotions

As a Certified Barista, you:

• Are able to work independently and share the bar effectively with other staff members
• Help guide and support entry-level employees during their training phase
• Prepare and serve espresso and milk drinks according to Ceremony guidelines

As a Shift Leader, you:

• Perform keyholder responsibilities and follow alarm/security procedures
• Assist with training new hires, including shadow shifts
• Assist with implementation of seasonal menu changes and other cafe updates
• Ensure responsible money handling and accuracy of in-house cash banks
• Communicate thoroughly with Assistant Manager and Cafe Manager
• Delegate, ensuring successful completion of daily and long-term checklists
• Make decisions and solve problems while aiming to avoid wasting money or incurring unnecessary cost
• Identify additional areas of improvement in the cafe pertaining to cleanliness and hospitality and prioritize completion of those tasks
• Complete end-of-day reports and register closing procedures
