Job Description

Moore Bass Consulting is a growing, well-established civil engineering firm providing consulting services throughout the southeast. Some of our many services include Civil, Environmental, Land Surveying, Land Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Construction Administration.

Moore Bass Consulting has an opening for a Drafter/Designer with an expertise in site planning and subdivision planning in our Tallahassee, FL office. Under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer, you will primarily prepare subdivision layouts and drawings for proposed land development projects. You will learn about local regulatory, planning and zoning constraints by working closely with various professionals across the organization. GIS base maps, boundary and topographic surveys and legal descriptions are typically utilized as the base maps for planning exercises. You may serve as a lead planner or designer on zoning changes and Comprehensive Plan amendments. You will be responsible for technical performance on small projects and/or designated tasks on larger projects. The position requires a strong understanding of planning, zoning, surveying, architecture, site work grading, civil engineering design concepts, and regulatory compliance. This role requires regular interaction with our engineers and clients, excellent verbal and written communications skills are required. Position requires experience and proficiency with Civil 3D software. Experience in Sketchup and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus.

Typical Duties:
  • Performing various forms of site planning technical support, including answering questions relative to code requirements, drawings, site planning specifications, site research or regulatory approval process research
  • Preparation of 3D modeling of site design concepts
  • Using various computer applications (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator), to produce layouts and drawings of proposed land development project showing buildings, parking, roads and utilities in appropriate locations, as well as grading concepts, landscape plans, and handicap accessibility requirements
  • Preparation of rendered site plans
  • Preparation of written land development project summaries and narratives
  • Translating verbal and/or written instructions into drawings of proposed land development projects including the incorporation of architectural layouts, zoning and environmental constraints and other site planning information
  • Communicate and coordinate efforts and ideas
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience, including preparation of planning maps and site plan documents across residential and commercial projects
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Knowledge of technical standards related to site planning
  • Ability and willingness to learn and accept new responsibilities as experience is gained
  • Ability to read Construction Plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly proficient in construction practices
  • Intermediate level of expertise with all major technical aspects of surveys utilized as base maps for planning
  • Knowledge of site planning principles, techniques, and procedures
  • Highly proficient in mathematics and measurements
