Description


Under the direction of the Village Head, directly supervise a group of up to 12 campers in a resident camp setting, providing a safe and fun environment. Leads activity areas throughout the day. Greets everyone by name whenever possible. Extends thanks whenever appropriate. Makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values or the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.


Responsibilities


  • Teach specialty classes as assigned following the provided lesson plans and activities.
  • Will be assigned to kitchen work as needed.
  • Oversee dining hall table family group at each meal, ensuring all children are well fed. Oversee food allergies at table as needed ensuring children follow doctor or parent dietary restrictions.
  • Maintain camp supplies and equipment in a clean, neat manner.
  • Be dedicated to creating a camp atmosphere which consists of the elements of safety, friendship, Adirondack experiences, character development and fun.
  • Begin each day rested and prepared for the day’s program. This may include: advance preparation (e.g. stories, skits, games, crafts, and nature projects)
  • To carry out other duties as assigned to assure the overall success of the camp
  • Practice safety awareness at all times (including hydration and sun protection)
  • Follow and model established guidelines in regard to safety and emergency procedures and document accidents/concerns as required.
  • Directly responsible for the daily safety and program schedule for cabin group.
  • Ensures all areas of camp are kept clean at all times by participating in regular cleaning duties including end of summer clean up.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Always participate in songs, skits and camp program with enthusiasm.
  • Communicate with Village Head in regard to camper concerns and issues.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, safe cabin daily.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining behavior management in assigned group and serve as a role model for good behavior.
  • Attend all required training and meetings.
  • Assist with the supervision and positive growth of all assigned Counselors-In-Training.


Requirements

Qualifications


  • Must have appropriate background and training in program area (to be determined by Program Director)
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required; certifications must be valid/current before the first day of training and throughout the duration of your seasonal employment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Person must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current certification in Waterfront Lifeguarding preferred.


Physical Requirements


  • Observe and promote safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to visibly observe children.
  • Ability to reason, solve problems and make sound decisions even when distracted by noise and activity.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and transport equipment from one location to another.

Salary Description


$290 to $700 per week
