Job Summary
This announcement will be used to fill a Special Teacher-BVI Outreach Specialist position at the MN State Academies. This position will begin in the fall of the school year 2023-2024.
This is a ten month per year position; the work schedule follows the school calendar.
Under general supervision, contributes to outreach efforts and the design and delivery of academic instructional programs to blind/visually impaired or deaf/blind students. Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with students, families and school districts
- Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques
- A valid Minnesota Teacher license from the Minnesota Department of Education OR the ability to obtain one prior to start date.
- Knowledge of blind/visually impaired students and educational practices
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Skill in writing basic reports, using arithmetic, and reading and interpreting charts and graphs
- Classroom experience working with blind/visually impaired students and families
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of expanded core curriculum and educational best practices as it relates to blind/visually impaired students.
- Experience creating public facing documents - flyers, presentations, and other print content.
- Experience presenting information related to blind/visually impaired instructional practices in a professional setting.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand and walk throughout the workday
