Job Description

VECA Professional Services is a staffing service that provides qualified candidates for Project, Maintenance, Turnaround positions within the petrochemical, commercial construction and manufacturing industries. Our qualified team is able to fill both managerial and field positions ranging from Engineering, Project Managers, Planners, Schedulers, Contracts Administration, Procurement, Mechanical, Piping, Control Systems, Electrical, Civil, Structural Designers, Document Control, QAQC, Project Coordinators, Administrative Personnel or any requested position to help any project be successful.


Buyer/Purchasing Agent – Petrochemical Industry – Dickinson, ND. Full-time/ up to 1 year. Excellent benefit package. If needed, this compensation package would include monies to mobilize/de-mobilize, Perdiem and a generous R&R (Rest & Relaxation) stipend and schedule.


Duties include (but not limited to):


  • Identifies and resolves purchase order and invoice discrepancies working in collaboration with Accounts Payable, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure timely goods receipt and payment.
  • Liaises with other Supply Chain and legal professionals to ensure that contractual terms and conditions are acceptable and serve to minimize risk as needed during the purchasing process.
  • Utilizes practices such as RFQs, bid analysis, negotiations and partnering to ensure maximum value for expenditures. Seeks new practices and methods to increase value of services.
  • Expedites purchase commitments to ensure on time delivery and acceptable performance by suppliers, to meet the needs of business partners.
  • Purchases materials, equipment, and incidental services for assigned areas in best interests of company. Ensures transactions are managed in seamless process from order entry through invoice payment.
  • Maintains awareness of current market conditions, new products, supply sources for assigned commodities, new technologies, assigned business units and methods that enhance value of purchasing process.
  • Receives and reviews purchase requisitions for materials and services for completeness and proper level of approval. Evaluates competitive bids and quotations against purchase order commitments, maintains documentation as appropriate for all purchases.
  • Performs moderately complex price analysis based on few variables and confers with suppliers to obtain product or service information such as price, availability and delivery schedule.
  • Ensures the proper use of tools and systems provided to monitor, verify and implement Supply Chain controls, including: supplier agreements, bidding documents, time and material rates, scope of work, supplier/contractor performance measurements, supplier/contractor qualification and approval and any other documents related to commercial management terms and conditions.
  • Utilizes proficiency in commercial analysis techniques and process improvements to support Supply Chain initiatives and maintain value laden supply relationships. Establishes, maintains and communicates an understanding of the business partner organization.
  • Proven experience as a purchasing agent or relevant role
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with policies, procedures, and guidelines.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner
  • Ability to be a self-starter and manage a fluctuating workload
  • Willing to proactively manage responsibilities


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with Industrial Projects and/or Refinery Turnarounds is preferred as you’d be working within the client’s Purchasing Dept, securing and expediting all manner of material and equipment for a large refinery turnaround.
