JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: Assist in providing a safe and secure environment on the bus that is conducive for safe and efficient transport.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Be familiar with and adhere to the Head Start Program Performance Standards, and district’s policies and procedures.
- Maintain an open, friendly, professional relationship with all staff and families, to include respect for culture, diversity and ethnicity.
- Be familiar with emergency equipment on the bus.
- Knowledge of the route.
- Knowledge of students that are on board bus/van and appropriate stop.
- Monitor student behavior on board bus.
- Provide assistance to driver and students on board bus
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Good communication skills.
- Experience in defusing confrontational situations.
- Able to exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with students, faculty and parents.
- Knowledge and understanding of school-age children.
- Able to work as a cohesive team with the School Bus Driver
- Able to meet the physical requirements of the job
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with daily inspection of passenger area of the bus to include but not limited to seats , Child Safety Restraints (CSR).
- Assist in passenger management by monitoring student behavior to reduce distractions for the driver.
- Be able to secure Early Child Students in CSR.
- Responsible for assisting Driver during emergency evacuations.
- Assist students with managing behaviors and resolving conflicts and report serious student code of conduct violations.
- Complete Bus Referrals and Incident Reports when necessary.
- All other duties as assigned by unit administrator or designee.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch to lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus and depth perception. Specific auditory abilities required include normal conversation, phone conversation and ability to isolate voices in multiple conversations.
