Job Description

For a position in a premier Biotech facility at a flagship property, we are looking for a qualified building engineer. In accordance with the Company's established operational and safety protocols, this person will oversee preserving the integrity of all building systems, managing the property effectively, and providing a range of tenant services while upholding good tenant relations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Perform the required preventative maintenance, make note of broken equipment, inspect the cleanliness of the building, and speak with the mid-level engineer.
  • Ensure OSHA health and safety regulations are followed.
  • Does small painting, carpentry, and masonry tasks, such as prepping surfaces and applying paint, stains, and varnishes with a brush, sprayer, or roller, installing locks and latches, etc.
  • Will be on call for 1 week in an 8-week block.
  • Use the proper hand, power, and specialty tools to carry out maintenance, such as replacing or repairing electrical fixtures (such as wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.).
  • Perform the physical tasks necessary to address emergency situations such sewer backups, flooding of the building's offices, and related occurrences. Physical responsibilities include cleaning up before, during, and after a problem is resolved, if it occurs outside of the hours that custodial service staff are available.
  • Using various painting equipment and related tools, prepares the surfaces and paints different buildings and equipment (floors, roofs, doors, lavatory facilities, etc.) to protect wood and metal parts from corrosion and maintain a safe, comfortable working environment.
  • Carries out additional tasks relevant to the job as needed.
  • Carries out routine plumbing repairs, such as replacing or repairing drain and tap leaks, clearing clogged drains and replacing drain hoses on washers and other such appliances.
  • Employing the Angus work order system, inspects structures and machinery for flaws and repairs that are required.
  • Regularly examines the facility and its components to identify any preventative maintenance requirements, makes note of broken equipment and unkempt buildings, and consults Asset Management on such issues.


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Requires prior HVAC experience.
  • Experience in the industry of at least five years is essential.
  • Must be prepared to help with all aspects of building operation and upkeep.
  • Knowledge of various control systems.
  • Experience in commercial lab building maintenance.
  • Experience with biotech facilities is desired.
  • Energy management system proficiency is necessary.
  • Preventative Maintenance Data Base System practical knowledge is necessary.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Preferable certifications from trade schools.
  • Having experience running facilities with plenty of boilers, chillers, and high-pressure steam plants.
  • Excellent communication skills both in writing and speaking.
  • Ladder climbing, lifting 50 lbs., and some physical dexterity to wield and operate hand tools are required.
