Job Description
This position is responsible for the leadership and management of the Massachusettes Bodily Injury Claims Unit, overseeing the investigation and settlement of Personal and Commercial Automobile claims as well as third-party liability claims arising primarily from Homeowner and Business Owner Policies. Primary responsibilities include leadership, development and oversight of the unit including personnel resources, business processes and associated technologies, external vendor and agency relationships.


Responsibilities


  • Identify individual behavior/performance issues, provide feedback, establish corrective action or performance improvement plans, and maintain documentation
  • Assist in the adjustment of claims that are referred for supervisory action
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations; Mentor and facilitate the career development of team members
  • Maintain strong vendor, agency, and policyholder relationships
  • Review employment applications, resumes and interview candidates
  • Lead an experienced team of claims professionals by guiding, monitoring, and facilitating the achievement of unit performance objectives
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Perform Best Practices regular quality file reviews to identify areas of improvement for claims processing
  • Maintain a collaborative and positive environment including recognition, reward, constructive feedback, and team meetings
  • Coordinate/supervise assignments, coverage analysis, reserve accuracy, effectiveness of negotiation, and resolution of claims
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare and ISO reporting requirements
  • Authorize and monitor litigation assignments
  • Manage Loss Adjustment Expenses in accordance with company guidelines
  • Identify areas of improvement for internal workflow efficiency to maintain service standards


Requirements


  • Project management skills
  • Ability to meet continuing education requirements for licensing purposes
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet firm deadlines
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Knowledge of policy contracts, insurance laws, regulations, and the legal environment in which we operate
  • Utilization of various manuals/software resources (crash books, NADA guides, PDR, etc.)
  • Proficient in PC Windows environment
  • Utilization of Automation Claims Management System
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to deal with all kinds of people with flexibility, fairness and honesty
  • 2 years of supervisory experience preferred
  • 5 years of experience in casualty and general liability claims handling required
  • Ability to work extra hours when workload requires
  • Excellent understanding of claims handling and customer service
  • Multi-line adjuster’s license as required in our operating territories
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
