Role Description: Nonprofit Board of Directors Member

About Us:

House-Raising is a dynamic and mission-driven 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the start-up stage of its existence. House-Raising will provide accountability and opportunity for at-risk youth involved in or on track to be involved with the legal system through community intervention. House-Raising will provide interventions to at-risk youth in the form of diversion programs and truancy services dependent upon the needs of the community. Through the organization's work, House-Raising will redefine the meaning of community through community collaboration, education, and support. House-Raising’s goal is to provide accountability and foster commitment to young people to promote pro-social interactions, strengthen interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in their future. House-Raising is officed in Minneapolis, MN and is establishing itself in the larger metro area which includes the community of Hudson, WI.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and committed individual to join our Board of Directors. As a Board Member, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of our organization and ensuring the fulfillment of our mission. Your valuable expertise, insights, and dedication will help shape our policies, initiatives, and programs to maximize our impact and better serve our communities. This role serves a 2-year term with the ability of reappointment.


Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with fellow board members to develop and review the organization’s long-term strategic plans, ensuring alignment with our mission and vision.
  • Networking and Partnerships: Foster relationships with potential partners, donors, and collaborators to strengthen the organization’s reach and impact.
  • Fundraising and Resource Development: Actively participate in fundraising efforts, donor cultivation, and resource mobilization to support the sustainability of the organization’s programs and initiatives.
  • Financial Oversight: Review and approve annual budgets, financial reports, and ensure responsible financial management and transparency.
  • Advocacy and Outreach: Advocate for the organization’s mission, raise awareness about critical issues, and promote collaboration with other community stakeholders.
  • Ambassadorship: Represent the organization at public events, conferences, and meetings, showcasing our work and engaging with stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks to the organization, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Governance: Uphold the highest standards of governance, ethics, and fiduciary responsibility to protect the organization’s best interests.
  • Program Evaluation: Monitor and assess the effectiveness of our programs and initiatives in achieving the organization’s goals and desired outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate the organization’s mission and engage with diverse audiences.
  • Time Commitment: Willingness to dedicate the necessary time and effort to fulfill board responsibilities, including attending regular meetings and actively participating in committee work.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A team player who can work effectively with other board members, staff, and volunteers to achieve common goals.
  • Integrity and Ethics: High ethical standards and a commitment to acting in the best interest of the organization and its beneficiaries.
  • Leadership and Decision-Making: Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to make well-informed, strategic decisions that align with the organization’s values.

  • Expertise and Experience: A diverse range of skills, experiences, and expertise, including but not limited to finance, law, marketing, fundraising, nonprofit management, program development and board development.
