Job Description
Under general supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Technician provides and documents preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic biomedical equipment.

Essential Functions:
  • Assists in training medical, nursing and paramedical staff in the safe use of biomedical equipment.
  • Investigates and recommends remedial action on incidents involving biomedical equipment.
  • Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in biomedical equipment and systems, as required.
  • Performs and documents biomedical equipment repairs as well as tests all new and repaired biomedical equipment before it is put into use.
  • Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, Health Plan members and the public.
  • Ensures that an inventory of biomedical equipment, replacement parts and standby equipment necessary to minimize disruption of patient care is maintained.
  • Provides technical support on new and replacement biomedical equipment and reviews work performed by outside service vendors to ensure defined specifications are met and results are properly documented.
  • Performs and documents scheduled inspections and maintenance, as well as electrical safety tests of biomedical equipment necessary to maintain conformance to code requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


  • GE Aisys or Aisys CS2
  • Five (5) years of field service experience with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), third-party independent service organization (ISO), or a multisite integrated delivery network (IDN)
  • OEM training in one or more of the following systems:

    • GE Aisys or Aisys CS2

    • GE Aestiva MRI

    • Drager Fabius MRI

    • Mindray A5 or A7


  • Required qualifications:

    • Five (5) years of anesthesia service experience

    • Five (5) years of field service experience with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), third-party independent service organization (ISO), or a multisite integrated delivery network (IDN)

    • OEM training in one or more of the following systems:

      • GE Aisys or Aisys CS2

      • GE Aestiva MRI

      • Drager Fabius MRI

      • Mindray A5 or A7




  • GE Aestiva MRI
  • Five (5) years of anesthesia service experience
  • Drager Fabius MRI
  • Mindray A5 or A7

  • GE Aisys or Aisys CS2 anesthesia training (L7600 posting, since this is the primary machine used)
  • Preferred qualifications:

    • Training and experience performing waste anesthesia gas testing (both L7600 and L501 postings)

    • Mindray A5 or A7 anesthesia training (L501 posting, since this is the primary machine used)

    • GE Aisys or Aisys CS2 anesthesia training (L7600 posting, since this is the primary machine used)
