Responsibilities
The Clinical Engineering Department is responsible for installation, repair, and maintenance of medical equipment. This position is responsible for providing repair and scheduled/preventative maintenance service on a wide variety of complex medical instrumentation and computer-based medical systems, which may include (but is not limited to) Operating Room, Anesthesia, Neurology, Respiratory Therapy, networked Patient Monitoring (wired and wireless), and general biomedical equipment and systems. Position will include responsibility for high risk (life-support and non-life support) equipment.
Required Qualifications
Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
- Electronic technician skills including electronic troubleshooting, system troubleshooting, ability to read electronic schematics, perform electronic and electromechanical assembly and repair.
- Minimum of 2 years BMET experience.
- Knowledge of physiology to a sufficient level as required to understand the equipment being repaired and maintained.
- AS in Electronic Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology education or equivalent education/training.
- Ability to communicate with staff and vendors regarding equipment issues with both verbal and written communication methods.
- General knowledge of biomedical instrumentation, including computerized medical systems and computer/medical device networking.

- Work hours/days: Variable/variable.
- Non-health practitioners who suspect that an individual is a victim of abuse are strongly encouraged to report their suspicions to a health practitioner.
- Required to work alternative shifts at the discretion of department management with proper notification. May be occasionally required to be available on a paid standby basis for emergency repair calls on nights, weekends and holidays. Willing to respond to emergency off-hours repair calls on nights, weekends and holidays. Willing to work overtime for special projects and emergency repairs.
- No smoking in the work area or in any UC vehicle. NOTE: UCDHS is a smoke-free campus, effective 7/1/08.
- Position requires a valid California Driver’s License; subject to the DMV pull notice system.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
