Job Description
The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst to join the Agoro Lab. The role requires a highly motivated, innovative, driven, and independent analyst who will perform analysis of complex systems data – including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and other modalities of data. The qualified candidate will have the ability to plan, execute, visualize, report, and interpret analytic results, and the ability to work with the PI to understand biological mechanisms that are associated with aging, anemia, and chronic kidney disease. The Bioinformatics Analyst may also develop algorithmic approaches to address them, and to implement these approaches in scripts or programs in close collaboration with the principal investigator.


The position requires someone who can independently plan and execute work, is self-motivated, organized, and knows when to seek guidance from other bioinformatician experts at the JAX.


The analyst may require working in a hybrid or remote fashion under the direct supervision of the principal investigator who will determine assignments, prioritize projects, assess progress, and provide mentorship and expert guidance. The successful candidate will also be expected to attend the annual JAX Bioinformatics training program that aims to build data science talent at JAX by providing training in scientific computing and data analysis and building instructional capacity with expert instructors.


Key Responsibilities


  • Implement analytical pipelines and summarize results.
  • Assist in writing manuscripts and reports, present at scientific conferences, and interpret analytical results.
  • Process, visualize, and analyze complex systems biology and genetics data.


Qualifications


  • Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program.
  • Ability to set priorities, balance different projects and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated team player with a professional, positive attitude and willingness to be flexible
  • Demonstrated success in conducting multiple, concurrent assignments or a multi-faceted project
  • Demonstrated skill in effective and professional oral and written communication
  • Proficient in Python. Experience with Bash and computing on a cluster is a plus.
  • Perform statistical analysis, creates visualizations, and interpret analytical results under close supervision. Prior experience in data science research is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science or relevant quantitative sciences. Incumbents who have not achieved Master’s degree may compensate for a lack of a degree with at least five years of professional bioinformatics work experience.
  • Exceptional computer skills, and ability to develop technical documents, databases and presentations
