Job Description
Job Title: Babysitter/ KidZone Staff FLSA Status: Part Time
Reports to: Preschool/Family Director Revision Date: 1/11/2023
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing direct supervision to children between the ages of 3 months to seven years of age and be sure to offer a safe, pleasant, secure environment. Top-notch member service is very important in this position. Responsibilities include providing a quality experience to children and parents that is focused on our YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide a safe, happy and secure environment for all children.
  • Greet and communicate with each parent/child entering the program area.
  • Explain policies to all new parents/guardians.
  • Engage in supervised activities with children.
  • Provide for basic needs such as diapering and bathroom visits, especially during potty-trainings.
  • Re-direct children, discipline only in non-threatening, non-aggressive manner.
  • Monitor check in and check out information, make sure stickers match upon pick up and that there is a contact number in case of crying child/illness/etc.
  • Clean room and sanitize toys during and at end of each shift.
  • Fill out accident/incident forms completely and turn in to director for follow up.
  • Notify Director of any concerns or supplies needed.
  • Dress appropriately for duty (YMCA staff shirt/jacket, name tag, khaki or black pants, capris when warmer).
  • Know the YMCA emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
  • Find own substitute when not able to work scheduled shift.
  • Be enthusiastic, friendly and smile.
  • Incorporate YMCA Character Development values into program.
  • Recognize and report suspected child abuse to Director.
  • Serve as a good role model demonstrating positive values and safe behavior.
  • Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Make families feel comfortable and at ease.
  • Be open, friendly and approachable to families.
  • Initiate interaction with and between families.
  • Frequently ask if there is any way you can help.
  • Invite families to participate in programs.
  • Be knowledgeable about program areas and share information with families.
  • Be knowledgeable about the YMCA, its programs and policies.
  • Encourage participation in facility and program orientations.
  • Be informed and up-to-date on latest developments in your field.
  • Acquaint families with other YMCA programs and benefits.
  • Recommend participation in a variety of Y programs.
  • Be able to articulate the YMCA’s mission, values, and benefits.
  • Ask families to contribute to the annual campaign.
  • Be able to articulate the role and importance of volunteers.
  • Be informed about volunteer opportunities.
  • Provide activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Model relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Entry requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age with previous experience working with children.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to work well with young children and their parents and be fun, energetic, creative and enthusiastic. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Requirements prior to employment: YMCA New Staff Orientation training plus CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogens training within 30 days of hire date.
