Job Description
Essential Duties And Responsibilities


The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements and duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.


  • Assist with tracking and maintaining technical libraries.
  • Test and validate AV system user interfaces.
  • Ceiling and wall mounted speakers and/or microphones.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for technical support, via email, phone, and helpdesk service platform
  • Wall or pole mounted displays.
  • Assist and/or train users with District supported hardware, software, and system interfaces as it relates to AV systems technology.
  • Salvage/Surplus AV systems equipment and peripherals.
  • Maintain the following:
  • Diagnose and repair AV system cabling, and configuration problems.
  • AV components and interconnections within racks or cabinets
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs for AV system components and equipment when necessary.
  • Develop knowledge and technical skills on a continuous basis to keep up with technology.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests and provide technical assistance to end users on AV technology and peripheral equipment.
  • Assist with the installation of:
  • Records of maintenance and repair jobs performed on equipment, with associated resolutions, within a helpdesk platform.
  • Ceiling and wall mounted projectors and cameras
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose simple AV system hardware and other related issues.
  • Communicate with dispatch technicians.
  • Labeling and inventory of assigned AV system computer, network, peripherals, and software. Monitor and communicate technology supply levels.
  • Assist with the install of AV system component firmware upgrades.
  • Checking and prepping AV systems for meetings and events.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


The incumbent should possess knowledge of:


  • AV equipment commonly used in an educational or commercial setting.
  • Methods and techniques for troubleshooting and determining the causes of AV system device and software errors and failures.
  • Competencies in system integration, connectivity, installation, configuration, diagnostics, and systematic troubleshooting of AV systems
  • Principles of Audiovisual (AV) technology including single processing and distribution, streaming, control, and connectivity
  • Basic methods and practices installing bulk cabling and its termination.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of construction techniques.

The Incumbent Should Possess The Ability To


  • Follow and apply written and oral work instructions.
  • Safely lift and handle 45 lbs. regularly.
  • Work in physically uncomfortable and unclean areas.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Safely climb a ladder up to 15'
  • Build, test and verify, low voltage cabling.

  • Safely use hand tools (crimpers, pliers, wire strippers, screwdriver, etc.)
  • Safely use standard power tools (drill, impact, reciprocating saw, etc.)
  • Appropriately use safety equipment (glasses, gloves, hard hat) will be provided where/when needed.
  • Troubleshoot AV systems, making minor modifications and repairs.
  • Make sound independent judgments within established guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Operate personal computers and personal computing devices, and peripheral equipment.
  • Safely climb ladders while carrying up to 45 pounds
