Job Description

Primary Function

A leading science and nature documentary film production company, is seeking an Associate Editor to perform research and editorial tasks for its new conservation and biodiversity series. The Editor will support the research team by coordinating the editorial workflow for the series Hub and by reviewing research deliverables from production partners. Such work includes commissioning, editing, and writing news stories, guest posts, and other online content, and fact-checking the work of production partners to ensure the highest degree of scientific rigor and accuracy in film content.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating editorial workflow for the series Hub.
  • Adapt WH deliverables (including episode descriptions, contributor bios, and FAQs) for website metadata, using WordPress.
  • Oversee fact-checking of WH scripts and other materials submitted by production partners, in compliance with the TBS Research Guide.
  • Respond to questions submitted to the Hub, doing primary research when necessary.
  • Coordinate the posting of news stories to the Hub from journalism partners and other sources.
  • Assign, edit, and produce news stories and guest posts for the Hub.
  • Coordinate research deliverables from outside production partners for WH Season 2, including annotated scripts, pronunciation guides, species logs, and program descriptions.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Write weekly roundups and other content as required for the Hub.
  • Publish content to the Hub, including stories, videos, and photos, using WordPress.
  • Attend WH editorial and production meetings as required.


Skills & Qualifications

  • The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).
  • Must be able to remain in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace.


Education & Experience

  • Experience in film development, research, and the production process is a plus.
  • A degree in the sciences, journalism, or in science communication.
  • Experience managing an editorial calendar and/or website.
  • Experience working with—and editing—freelance writers and outside experts is a plus.
  • Prior experience in science storytelling in any medium.
