Job Description

Stanford Medicine WellMD & WellPhD seeks an innovative and experienced Associate Director of Communications to direct the development and implementation of communication and marketing strategies, plans, and programs to meet WellMD & WellPhD Center goals. This position is responsible for overseeing a wide variety of marketing and communications activities, enabling programs, services, events, and products within the WellMD & WellPhD Center to meet organizational objectives. The Associate Director selects, develops, and evaluates a team of communication professionals, as well as the management of outside vendors, to ensure effective operations.

The WellMD & WellPhD Center is an innovative and internationally-recognized program with a mission to advance the well-being of physicians and those they serve, as well as of biomedical scientist and the beneficiaries of their contributions. The Associate Director is responsible for leading internal and external marketing and communication for the WellMD & WellPhD Center and Chief Wellness Officer and Associate Dean of Physician Well-being to more than 10,000 clinical faculty, faculty scientists, residents, fellows, students, colleagues, external learners, members, and collaborators.


About The Role:

Reporting to the Administrative Director, this role leads a growing communications team within an expanding WellMD & WellPhD Center. The Associate Director of Communications serves as the Center’s lead communications and marketing strategist; and will be a key resource to the Center’s Leadership Team in the collective pursuit of the Center’s goals. This role will work with senior leaders to develop a comprehensive and integrated communication and marketing strategy for the Center. The Associate Director will set a strategic direction to enable creation of targeted plans and strategies by the team’s communication professionals, including a Communications Operations Manager, Writer for the Chief Wellness Officer, Communications Coordinator, Event Planner, and various communication and web vendors. This role oversees the success of a variety of communication channels and activities (i.e. website, social media, digital, print, forums, executive reports, videos, etc). This position oversees a variety of marketing and promotional activities for revenue and non-revenue generating programs and offerings. This role fosters partnerships with Stanford University and School of Medicine Marketing, Stanford Medicine Communications and Strategy team, Stanford IT-Webmasters, Stanford Video, department-specific communications leaders, and other vendors This opportunity is remote work eligible.


About You:

You have a deep understanding of the academic medical environment and experience managing marketing and communications teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.


Duties include:

  • Foster partnerships with other school, department, product, service, program, event and/or channel managers.
  • Manage vendor relationships.
  • Manage the execution of communication and brand strategy for multiple programs incorporating appropriate channels (i.e., web presence, digital and print).
  • Responsibility for staff including the recruitment, management, development, and retention of staff.
  • Oversee event management as needed to support marketing objectives.
  • Assess market opportunities and track market trends. Implement marketing and communication improvements based on findings.
  • Oversee market research and analysis. Use the results to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting.
  • Set budget, goals, and objectives in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop and execute communication and marketing strategies and communications and marketing plans/programs to meet organizational objectives.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience managing multi-channel content strategies, in an academic medical or healthcare setting
  • Deep understanding of the academic medical environment and experience managing marketing and communications teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategies that enhance brand and reputation
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Suite i (Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Stock), experience with Email Marketing Vendors (MailChimp, Constant Contact), proficiency in the Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint,) proficiency in the Google Suite (Google Drive, GoogleDocs), Proficiency in project management software (Smartsheets), Proficiency in Twitter, LinkedInLearning, and Google Analytics

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Highly detail oriented with strong ability to understand constituent needs and lead teams toward a common goal.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of strategic analysis, customer segmentation strategies and business and marketing planning.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and train staff.
  • Strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Excellent project manager with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven track record with branding, integrated marketing strategy, messaging and positioning.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to senior management.
  • Demonstrated marketing management skills and the ability to work effectively with decision-makers across many levels of an organization.
  • Prior experience in planning and managing budgets.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

The expected pay range for this position is $100,000 to $161,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
