Job Description
Summary:

The Associate Design Engineer provides design and engineering services to internal customers, including engineering research, testing, prototype development and production, project management, contractor management, and on-site support. Ensures optimal product design in order to maximize product quality, ease of assembly, minimize tooling cost, reduce cycle time, and increase production efficiency. Explore and develop business opportunities that are both presented by customers, and self-initiated.

This role requires working in an office environment (not hybrid or remote) at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts engineering activities in accordance with policies, plans, procedures, instructions, and standards under the direction of the Vice President of Engineering.
  • 2D Drawing, 3D Modeling (permanent molds and prototypes), structural analysis, stress analysis, testing, and interpretation of results.
  • Participates in material review meetings as necessary to assist in determining the cause of non-conformances.
  • Conduct formal and informal design reviews with internal and external cross functional teams.
  • MSB, DFMEA, DVPR, DFM, DFA, GD&T, SPC’s, DMU, design reviews, FEA, testing, and PMO support
  • Project proposals, planning, and approvals
  • Participate in Design Verification, Validation, and Release processes for new products.
  • Support the development of program design engineering documentation and design tools which may include:
    • MSB, DFMEA, DVPR, DFM, DFA, GD&T, SPC’s, DMU, design reviews, FEA, testing, and PMO support
  • Contributes to corrective action in response to non-conformances; assesses whether a design modification would contribute to a more effective solution.
  • Interfacing with Tooling, Manufacturing, Sales and other ConMet functions both informally and in formal Design Reviews.
  • Conducts design engineering activities which may include:
    • Project proposals, planning, and approvals
    • 2D Drawing, 3D Modeling (permanent molds and prototypes), structural analysis, stress analysis, testing, and interpretation of results.
    • Conduct formal and informal design reviews with internal and external cross functional teams.
    • Interfacing with Tooling, Manufacturing, Sales and other ConMet functions both informally and in formal Design Reviews.
    • Participate in Design Verification, Validation, and Release processes for new products.
  • Generates and control design activity documents (i.e., drawings, ECN’s, Test Reports, Specifications, Design Review Minutes, BOM’s Bills of Ops, etc.).
  • Conducts design and testing activities, which may include FMEAs, longevity analysis, fatigue analysis, tolerance stack-up probability, and analysis of test results; specify the application of SPC for characteristics identified to be sensitive to process variance.
Qualifications
  • One to two (1-2) years’ experience in the plastics industry and/or with knowledge of plastics; commercial vehicle knowledge or commercial vehicle component knowledge desired.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Manufacturing and finishing processes experience and knowledge.
  • Experience designing parts within a CAD system, preferably NX, CATIA V5, or CREO
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience within the automotive/commercial trucking industry
  • Basic knowledge of inspection and measurement tools such as CMM’s, calipers, pin gages, micrometers
  • Experience working with various rapid prototyping processes.
  • Knowledge of injection molded part design and IM tooling
  • Hands on experience building and testing prototype components and assemblies.
  • Experience creating 2D component and assembly drawings and applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5

Salaried Exempt Compensation & Benefits
